Magic_Al
It looks like Rockstar really studied U.S. highway codes this time. In past GTAs, particularly San Andreas, each area had its own random highway design, often lanes that were too narrow, and random pavement markings that meant nothing consistent from one area to the next. I'm glad they researched the subject this time because it not only looks better, it should be easier to drive on.

jakesp
They said they took over 100,000 images of NYC and the area around to make it look right
Walgreens
Yeah the Freeway system was AWESOME in Saints Row so I hope its like that.
FNGyos
I wonder if the traffic was fixed on the freeways...you know, like in SA when you were driving with the accelerator to the floor in a sports car, and yet for whatever reason everyone else was going the same speed you were. Irritating; I wanted to fly by them. ;]
crobert0247
Hey Magic, still reading the guide? The highways do look great!
Mad Tony
Awesome! There's only thing to do: get a dump truck, park it in the middle of the highway and create a massive pile-up.
Gueu
Thats awsome! I hope they dont turn suddenly and hit you. I used to hate that in san andreas highways.. Thanks for the info! Some cookies for u
SI MoViE StAr
From some of the videos I've seen though..and from what I know by living in NYC, the highways aren't really designed for speed like the SA highways. There's a bunch of sharp turns and dead endings on most of LC's highways.
Magic_Al
Bumping to take back some of what I said about Rockstar studying traffic codes. They do have signs and markings that are authentic signs and markings, which is an improvement, but a lot of how they're used makes absolutely no sense: Intersections that have stop signs AND traffic lights? WTF does that mean? You'd have to stop on green. Also most crosswalks seem to have walk/don't walk signs on only one side of the street! For $500 million maybe a real traffic engineer can be in the budget next time? Or is it supposed to be screwed up on purpose?
Carbine23
The freeway system is ok in this game. I wished they included the BQE, and the Van Wyck however, and the Broker-Dukes Expressway doesn't look anything like the Belt Parkway. There isn't a lot of cars and traffic on the highways which is dissapointing, but i will praise Rockstar for this one thing they did. If you're in a helicoptor high up in the sky, Rockstar used these red and white dot fillers so it would seem like traffic is moving. I think that was a genious idea because with these fillers, it actually looks like NYC! You can see jampacked dots moving on the streets and parkways of the city. Now of course if you move close, the dots will dissapear and you will see the few cars on the road, but the view is amazing with these fillers when up in the air. These fillers are only used at night for anybody who wants to check them out.
