SmK
As the topic title says, when I play HD files of any sort it lags terribly! Etc: Just downloaded IGN's video review of GTA 4 and it lags, really bad.. Its like the FPS drops alot or something. I've tryed WMP, VLC, WMP Classic, Quicktime, DivX. And I think I have all the neccesary codecs since I can play every other kind of video type file with no problem what so ever. What can be the problem here? Any ideas? matthew1g
What hardware are you running it? you can't just download any high def content and play it on any hardware.
Sixdust
You most likely do not have something that properly plays .h264 hd files. I recommend Zoom Player which is part of the CCCP (Its the best codec pack around, better than k-lite) If that does not work, you need to evaluate your hardware as well as your running processes and startup processes. Rocketkiller
Your CPU is probably too slow. Hell my old overclocked Athlon 64 3500+ couldn't play 1080p at full speed and my current dual core 4400+ still lags sometimes.
Otter
Yeah, it's a bitch on an older CPU. In VLC, you can tweak the settings to maximize playback, like dropping frames, etc, but don't expect miracles. On that note, however, HD Div-x seems to be much less processor intensive than h264. Try out some div-x.
SmK
I just installed CCCP (& Zoom PLayer) its still lagging.. I'm running an athlon 3500+, 2 gigs 512mhz ram, 10 rpms HDD, windows XP SP 2, nvidia 7800 GTX 256mb.. So I guess my hardware is too slow Its just that I seem to recall that I was able to play HDMI files before I formated my PC (Without lag). But I very rarely need to play these files, so I probably dont remember correctly.
