I've been to NYC a couple of times and the ambient sound that I remember the best is the sirens.

Is there any ambient sirens in GTAIV and how do they sound?

 

I remember so good the sounds. It's like the sirens are shut on and off rapidly, or they sound like alarm clocks. I have not heard anything like it anywhere else I have been and this is the sound that defines NYC for me.

Seriously, How often does New York City Police do surge drills?

 

Seems like a waste of resources to run 50 cop cars down the streets. Is it really worth it just to show police force?

NY isnt the only place that sounds like this, but it does happen alot more there..

 

There was a report out a while ago that showed people ignored or failed to respond to a steady siren.

 

Police have started to repeatedly start there sirens so its more unusual and people seem to respond quicker

 

cant remember where I read about it but im sure google could bring something up

 

 

and I hope it sounds exactly like that in GTA:IV

A lot of places do this, worldwide, including Japan who them weekly.

I guess it is a waste but is is freakin' cool to watch and listen to.

I live right near Philly, so they have a good amount of sirens too, trust me.

That's my favourite sound in NYC. You can hear the "whup whup" wherever you are.

I guess it depends on what streets your on, might be a lot louder in the busier areas and actually see the police, ambulances, fire trucks from a distance also I want to hear the horns from ships

isn't there a law about not using police sirens or lights and speed if it's not an emergency?? These just seems a waste of money and police time

Definitely not just an NYC thing, it sounds exactly like the sirens on police cars here in Detroit.
