Athena
Kotaku said that a 3.4gb install is mandatory for the PS3. So, I was wondering if there's an option to defrag the PS3's Hard disk for an even smoother GTA IV experience! Let me help you out. I'm a logger (for a living), so I'm going to make an analogy for you. If I cut down a tree, and it falls .. say .. on some other trees and is kinda hanging there. Someone might come along and say "Wow! That's dangerous to have that tree hanging there on those other trees." And you know what ... they'd be right, it is sort've dangerous. But the truth is it's more dangerous to try and cut that tree while it's hanging. Same thing with your predicament. Yeah, it might help with the experience, but any steps you'll have to go through (you'll have to take the HD out) will carry the potential for even more problems than the one you have now. Install the game and enjoy it. Don't worry about it. Be glad you don't have a RROD.

AllHailPopTarts
And do you mean that a PC would be needed to defrag it? Yeah. I mean, you could pop it out, throw it in a PC, and defrag it, no problem. (probably) But, how lame would you feel if you fcuked up your sh!t 36 hours before GTA drops? If there was a way to do it using the PS3's interface then it'd be a different story though.

I mean, the filesystem is really stable, I'd be more worried about screwing up some type of wired connection inside the PS3. If the HD fails in the PS3, go out and buy a new one, 5 minutes later, pop it in, and you're good. It's just ... a sensitive time for me.
