kirisute
well to add to my previous post for those that wish a more in-depth review: after about 4 or 5 hours gameplay ive got to the stage of being about 15% complete. Thats not even leaving the first part of the city btw! Things are still being explained in R* usual manner of basing a mission around new actions and abilities...like logging into your email and accessing throwable objects etc etc The mission sandbox is still nicely the same. There are choices you can make to help you along. take out people with your car before leaping out to shoot them. Pull over and shoot them all. etc etc So far no mission has railroaded me into having to choose a certain method of killing off people; unless its been a "learn your moves" type of mission. Once you get to grips with the controls they start to work really well, the automatic lock on can be tweaked for head shots and leg shots..or you can release the lock slightly to aimt exactly where you wish to aim if you feeling nasty and fancy knee capping somebody...(or in my case the first time i did it...a quick vasectomy!!) weather effects are very nice indeed, rain and fog misting everything nicely, and the rain makes driving and handling your chosen car nice and slippery. back to driving, why? well simply because from what ive seen its probably one of the most tweaked gameplay parts of the game. In previous games the cars just sort of moved. They had slightly differing handling etc but they rolled along merrily much of the time. Not now! You can see the suspension rolling. watch the wheels fall as you leave the tarmac on a jump, the cars ground out and sparks fly as you race round a hard corner. The Banshee and the really old wrecked car have exhaust effects...the banshee will blast flames out of its twin side pipes..and the old wreck will back fire belching smoke and sparks out! Bikes have their usual array of wheelies and suchlike..and handling is nice and keen. the different between the laid back choppers and the high powered street bikes being very noticeable...let rip too much on the street bikes and they slide away from you, twitching the back wheel out until you get grip and hold it straight. Nice additions are the accidents. Crash head on and your ejected through the screen and flip onto the road way. Dive out and you roll and bounce along the road. both superbly well animated. a note on Bikes and helmets..i read somewhere on here about how you grab the helmet. Well when you first get on you reach into the bike and put the helmet on. The it seems when yopu get off you do several things. ive seen, leaving it on for a few seconds as you walk before ripping it off and throwing it away. if thats the case and you get on the same bike...you ride off without your helmet! graphically the game really grows on you. You start to notice things. the more you play and the better you get the less you start to worry about what your doing and the more you take in whats around you. This really is a superbly detailed world! anyway hope this helps add some spice to those still waiting to get their mitts on the game. as usual..any questions you have just ask and ill answer in this therad if i can..or ifs its a spoiler then PM me and ill let you know if i can! TechnoHead
Great Review! One question, what's your favourite mission? Don't post why you have to do it, but what you actually have to do in said mission.
kirisute
i think there has been alot of internet scaremongering about it not living up to expectation. id like to state here and now i dont think anybody will be disspointed! Its a VIST HUGE change from any GTA before but its so much the better for it. The changes are not in the game itself...its tough to explain...its like taking your old car to a refurbishment shop and seing it come back gleaming chrome and plush leather seating! with its engine supercharged through the bonnet! Wanted_Level_Five
Yo Kirisute, Got a few questions I'm hopin you can answer. 1: How is the hand to hand combat like? Is it the San Andreas back and forth hit for a hit sort of deal or is it more fluid and realistic? I'd like to know as well the depth of Nico's HtH abilities, does he just throw the same combos, what sort of kicks does he do? And to add to that, I've read/heard the blood effects stain the character models. If so, if you hit someone in the face, does blood spill from their lip and stain their collar? How does it all work. 2: Is the Euphoria engine really all it's cracked up to be? I've been investigating into the engine and it's far beyond my cope of belief. Is it really true it's almost a completely random, fluid flowing motion for most things you do in the game? (jack cars ect) As well as the natural gravity and all that. Please answer if you get the chance to read this!!! Looking forward to hearing all about it

Don't post why you have to do it, but what you actually have to do in said mission. best mission so far? hmmmm there is one with Roman where you sort out a "family" matter....its brings in a superb new twist to just upping and shooting a guy. not saying how or why but its cool and completely new for any GTA series. kirisute
before i read it, does it contain any spoilers? im really aiming NOT to post any spoilers in anything i write here...so you should be safe! questions: hand to hand is tough to get to grips with...its punch and alternative punch, plus a new disarm manouver....first few times you will get your butt kciked badly! LOL as for the engine.its superb so far. car physics are lovely. climbing and jumping work very well. the people move realistically. if you get run over you slump and roll with the car. if you jack a car the actions change.ive even seen the guy hand onto the open door and be dragged along the road whilst you speed off!! there is alot of simply staring in dis belief at whats just happened!
