Does the 360 hinder the PS3 version?

Ive been reading that because of the xbox 360's stupid DVD crap it stops rockstar giving the PS3 a much better GTA 4. Basicly as proven the blu-ray can hold alot more data than a DVD.

Blue-ray

25GB (single-layer)

50GB (dual-layer)

DVD

4.7GB (single-layer)

8.5GB (dual-layer)

Its been all over the internet that because of the very low capicaty of the DVD used by 360 it has restricted GTA 4.

Why do PS3 users have to stick with the 360 versions of games? why can't developers use the extensive amount of space on the PS3 blue-ray discs and give PS3 users more? For example if PS3 users got GTA 4 using the full data space we could have

1. Bigger maps - could have Vice city and LC together.

2. more vehicles - possibly over 30 - 50 more

3. every building enterable

Please give your comments and personally im angry that the 360 is holding GTA back i mean wtf.

Replace every instance of "PS3" with "PC" and "Xbox 360" with "consoles", turn the Blu-ray preaching into hardware capabilities, and you've got yourself an honest rant.

It is true, although a lot of people do not like to admit it because their precious Xbox 360 DVDs can only hold 8.5 GB.Oh yeah, consoles are a lot weaker than PCs.

Its a good point, Dont know why but maybe...

Rockstar wants the gaming experience to be even and every couple of years you see a dramatic diffrence so your "looking forward" for the next gta and the next and the next etc. If GTA was its maximum potiencial now, not only would it be delayed more but it would seem kind of moddest and boring.

Or even, Rockstar doesnt want the obvious comparasions to show SO MUCH, that Rockstar are doing a favour to Sony and allowing them to make huge profits from people who buy PS3's just to play GTA and make 360 sales suffer.

EDIT: I've only got a PS3 so Im not being biased.

Well, MGS4 is using around 50GB and it's not going to 360, so you have a point, but 360 isn't holding them ALL back. icon14.gif

Try the other way around?

Did the PS3 hinder the game coming out on time? Yes, it did. Does the difficulty of developing on a cell processor unnecessarily prolong development and rise costs? Yes, it does. What's the point of all that technology when it takes so much time and effort to harness it?

First do you know how muck work is involved in creating the maps, it's a very difficult and time consuming process, if Rockstar had decided to combine LC and VC together you would be waiting a lot longer.

Vehicles don't actually take up that much room, and adding that many more vehicles is again not easy, making the engine handle that many and neither the 360 or PS3 have the ram avalible to support that many.

No chance why would Rockstar make every building enterable it's just pointless. They would have to make each building interesting, otherwise whats the point. And with the amount for buildings it's just a massive more work with little payback, might as well focus your effects on better things.

Laziness for the win? No, games will stop getting more and more advanced if we just say "oh the new technology is too complicated, I don't wanna".

Because any decent developer will take time in making their games, and not rush 'em. But you're right in a way I guess. We're going to have to wait for a while until the full power can be utilized.

They said Uncharted only "scratched the surface" of what the PS3 can do, so that's an indication I guess.

Yeah, thats what I dont get. If the PS3 is more powerful and can handle more, why do developers choose the 360? I am a 360 owner btw(only cuz it has better games).

Didn't the PS3 stop the 360 releasing late last year because their version wasn't ready?

enjoymgs4 at 20 fps, bub bye, blueray is slow as f*ck!

Yes and that is why it installs on the HDD.

To Haynesyb0y: Yes and R* also had to delay because it was a hassle to get GTA IV on one disc for the 360 version.

When you've been working on a game for two years and then the development cycle has another year added on because of a f*cking console, it makes one question the worth of it. Given the fact that not many people have a PS3, making sales ultimately meager, and given the fact that development costs and times are getting ridiculous, it makes sense to want to develop on something relatively easier and something that will guarantee more sales.

Um, GTA4 is 6+ gigs. That's almost max, the next GTA will be more, then more, and eventually run out. SA was way smaller, because it was LAST GEN.

The game's less than 7 GB so NO!!!!

/thread

Exactly. They didn't even fill a DVD. And think how much longer it would take to make the game bigger! It wouldn't be anywhere near the release date. It would easily take another year on top to make.

So yeah.

In many stores, the PS3 is outselling the 360, GTA4 wise.
