Slick Willy
Early/Mid 90's to early 2000's. Mostly East Coast/NY. I was born about 6-8 years too late. My generation is infatuated with the mindless/skillless bullsh*t of clowns like Lil Wayne (who wasn't half bad back in the day). Dem57
I prefer east cost stuff more than west coast sh*t and all this "crunk" and "screw" stuff. Right now im into the "The Bridge Wars" era of east coast hip hop, artist like Roxanne Shante, KRS-one and Boogie Down Productions. KRS One, you should go on vacation, with a name sounding like a wack radio station that must be like the best line iv'e ever heard Edited April 26, 2008 by Dem57 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/332551-hip-hop-rap-fans/#findComment-1057923905 Share on other sites
. Chippy .
I prefer 'old school' rap mainly. But I am really liking Method Man & Redman - Blackout! Album, and also Redman's newest album is amazing. SBizz6
I'll listen to pretty much any kind of rap, as long as the lyrics are good or the beat is tight. There are quite a few mainstream artists that I cannot stand (Soulja boy), but there are definitely a bunch of good ones out there. Oh and also, you could probably use the the official rap and hip hop topic to discuss this kind of stuff Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/332551-hip-hop-rap-fans/#findComment-1057924681 Share on other sites
Flesh-n-Bone
Late 80's and early-2-mid 90's West Coast/gangsta rap. I listen to strictly west coast music. Then a very few old school or east coast, no Southern (expect for Scarface) or Midwest. 100% West Coast fan in the blood 2 outside. Moonshield
I never listen to rap, rap sucks and I hate it. It's weird for somebody in the yardies to be so full of hate. Stay out of the topic if you're not going to contribute anything but brainless "rap is crap durhurhur" blabbering. Prince Drac
Mostly 90s era both East and West coast styles. They're both unique in their own way. Also some of the old 80s stuff. In terms of todays era, I can't stand any of the mainstream sh*t that would be classified as "ringtone music." The only rap from this era I would listen to is indie and underground stuff. Heres some underground stuff many of you may have never heard of (probably because they're asian, or Oriental as Europeans call them.) http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=98503 check out the track Polar Ices. OH NO
I never listen to rap, rap sucks and I hate it. This coming from the guy who came into the graffiti topic and blatantly lied about painting a piece. Use your head...think about where the things you are trying to imitate come from. Favourite era is when i started listening, with the whole east coast come up..I just caught NWA at a young age and then Ice cubes solo albums were the first hip hop albums i got deep into..then along came The Wu, Mobb, BIG, AZ..you know the rest. Not a lot of UK people listening to hip hop back then..It was even us kids gettin a lot of the older heads, who had checked a lot of 80s hip hop, back into the music. A lot of them had diverted onto techno/jungle and the acid house scene. We had a good connection at the time as well. Some kid my mate went to school with..his older brother used to visit the USA a lot, bringing back mad albums. Never met the kid but fair play he knew his hip hop. First album i ever bought myself was ONYX bacdafucup. On tape. I even remember wondering whether the guy at the counter would sell it to me cos it had a parental advisory sticker. I dunno, I could go on for hours. Always considered myself lucky to catch that era. Lick_A_Shot
Used to love the oldies - Public Enemy, Ice T, NWA and loads of that era but cant listen to the likes of 50 Cent its just awful. Saying that my music tastes have changed a lot from the time they were all out.
