WTF is wrong with my GTA4

Recommended Posts

seriously are you all Amish?

does the possibility occur that R* shelled out a f*ckload of hush money?

That is one possibility... it still doesn't answer the question as to why the leaked videos do not demonstrate any of these problems?

actually, theres a vid on youtube right now that shows a car ontop of a road and its floating there for a couple of seconds before the textures pop in.

Its a 30 second vid you can find it now

I'm sure it's just once in a while like all other gta's tho

Sorry but you didnt just "Go out & pick it up" You probably got a leaked version that was screwed up or missing some parts.

Only a handful of actual copies have slipped through stores. Rockstar stated this yesterday. I dont have a link, some website had it.

Huh? What is the 'leaked' version and what parts could possibly be missing? And you believe everything that Rockstar says? I think you're talking horse feathers rolleyes.gif

If you are running with the HDD disconnected/unused, you will see problems like this.

The HDD is used as a cache to pre-load, so without one the GFX will be affected. Not sure about the floating cars though.

I just saw a picture of nikko on a bike floating in the air.

Just tried to read every message throughly, but aussiebob hasn't confirmed he started the game again, and installed onto the harddrive.

...i'm 100% sure this will improve it for him.

yes, im putting my nuts on the line here.

I don't think you can even install it on the hard-drive for the 360 version, not sure about the PS3 though.

After picking up my copy of GTA today, i couldn't wait to get home and play.

Loaded the game, then after the intro, it started happening.

Very bad problems.

The rendering(is that what you call it?) of the buildings and ground took forever to stream.

The ground had no textures and the cars floated in the air.

The buildings also blurred as i stood right next to them waiting for the textures to load up.

If that wasn't bad enough, doing the driving missions i would smash into invisible walls only to find a brick wall pop up 5 seconds later!

Don't get me wrong, the graphics are absolutely awesome but theses issues really hamper the gameplay to such an extent, that replaying simple missions are often needed because of them.

What could be the problem?

I could help you, I would help you, BUT I WONT HELP YOU, cause you got a illegal copy of gta 4, support rockstar and take two by spending 3 in a half years to give this to you! and you just get it illegialy without paying for it! yeah lets all leak the damn game then rockstar wont have enough money to make gta v fa**ot.

There is mandatory install in PS3. No idea about the 360 install though.

He just said that he has the real copy, I don't see any reason why he would come here with his problems if he had downloaded copy of it...

Does it really make a difference if i use a hardrive or not?

I mean it really shouldn't, but if that is the case that is a bit dodgy.

Either way tried using a hardrive still no luck.

Data on the hard drive is accessed far faster than possible by the DVD drive, makes a very big difference to games.

Also it gives an extra memory cache for when your RAM and GFX fill up, if your hard drive is full or old and been used a lot it probably needs maintenance even for the cache to work properly.

Why gaming rigs run two or four high speed hard drives, it can dump info at two or four times the rate of a single drive if or when the RAM is full. It's all about speed.

Try doing the maintenance thing someone posted a few posts back and see if that helps.

You really don't see a reason?

But to me it sounds like his copy.

Even if he did download it, and I don't think he did, the game still has a problem. I played the game on Tuesday 22nd at my mate's when he downloaded it and posted about the exact same issue, but of course I just got flamed as a liar.

I've played every GTA and the pop-up issues I saw in GTA4 were more severe than any other. Remember San Andreas on the PS2? You went fast in a plane and you could hit invisible buildings and trees easily... well it's exactly like that in GTA4, but it happens in cars. And it is a regular occurrence, get in any car (even a slow one) and drive in straight line for about 10 seconds and the stores you are going past won't have loaded their textures and even the road texture becomes poor. Drive longer and the road just becomes solid grey color.

I've watched the gameplay vids and seen the odd object pop-in. I believe the textures are turning into the poor versions when people are driving in the gameplay vids but you can't really tell because the videos are such poor quality. If you find a really good gameplay vid and watch the road while they are travelling fast and keep watching it when they stop you often see a change in the texture. I think there are three textures; highest quality, poor quality, and awful quality (which is basically a solid color). Believe me, this is a major problem because unless it's the fully loaded high-quality texture then even the next one down looks absolutely awful and you'll see it any time you are driving for more than 10-20 seconds.

At the end of the day I know this is a problem and have experienced it first hand. Flame me as much as you want just now but I know on Tuesday there will be a flood of threads about this issue when people start experiencing it and complaining.

Why are you asking us? We dont have the game yet! xD Only thing I could think of is that you skipped the optional install for the 360 if thats the one your using. Thats all I got.

I've just cleared the cache, no difference.

I spoke to a guy who fixes 360's and said it sounds like a DVD drive problem.

The loading times of missions take a bit of time to load up to so he thinks it could be the problem.

He also said that if a game is known to have pop up problems a dodgy DVD Drive can enhance the issues even further.

I'll take it to him and see what happens.

By the way i also have the floating cars problem to, but that's because of the ground not loading up quick enough.

your full of it i just watched live streaming video for 5 hours and noticed nothing like that. I did how ever notice some times peds can take bout 10-30 seconds to show up in an area.

Question. Did the peds just start popping-in right there (like 5 feet in front of you) or did they spawn normally off in the distance?

Just want to clarify:

My copy came in the post today, and i've just had a good go on it for the last hour. I have a 360, and NONE of the problems this guy is going on about have happened. It is perfect, just perfect. When you see it playing right in front of you (not via a stream etc) there is so much more going on, graphically. It really does have to be seen to be believed.

Right...back to work!

I've watched a pretty good quality live stream from someone I know that pirated it, and even then I didn't see these problems.

My opinion is that the OP downloaded GTA4 and burned it too fast, thus degrading the quality of the image and it's ability to load, because I am quite certain the retail disc will NOT have this problem, or at least not as horrifyingly drastic as he makes it out to be.

From that description, it sounds like you're playing Second Life.

Anyway i heard yesterday that IV nearly got delayed for another month, there's been problems with it right up to it going gold. So it's all our own faults for being so damn impatient tounge.gif

Hey man... sorry to tell you that but your DVD drive is dead or dying.

I had the exact same problem you describe with Forza 2... no RROD but textures not loading (flying cars), game super slow to load. etc... When I read your first post I was remembering my first 360 dying. This sucks for you.
