Macauley
GTA4 is one game that could have needed Blue ray, but It is still going to be great on XBox and PS3 all the same. I don't think Rockstar should have waited for the 360 to support Blue Ray for the first game. I think Microsoft should stick with DVDs until Blue Ray becomes faster. I don't think I should go through how Blue Ray and DVD is different, and explain how it may or may not be difficult to speed it up, since I'm sure everyone here knows how a hard disk works. I think I said one too many "I (don't) think"s in that post. I think...
MaxPowers87
You, however, say Sony Burn in Hell. I cannot agree with that, even if you torture me to persuade my opinion. I love MiniDisc, much easier to use then CD R and CD RW! Try it some time, you'd like it. I also LOVE my HandyCam, only fault there is the audio end of things. Sony makes a lot of good moves, they're no evil empire. I also think Bill Gates ain't the devil incarnate either. You're getting far too emotional and you need to step back and look at the tech for it's usefulness alone, that's the best judge. Or i can be like you and be completely ignorant to all aspects of marketing, technology and the future of technology. If you'd like to know Gates' opinion he says physical media is on the way out the door. and I believe he's absolutely right. Sony can soak up those profits now. But I am certain they will not be enjoying the long life DVD or VHS saw. I don't agree completely with anyone, and yeah, I'd include you as well. And Bill Gates. No one here can read the future, No one at IBM and Sony, or Electronic Arts, or Take 2. etc. The list goes on. This debate can rage on and on, but time will tell only, who's right, wrong, or even close. I entered into Sony ownership reluctantly, not forcefed. I am a skeptic I like products that deliver and no one is really complaining about having the cheapest BD player on the market that also plays HD next gen games. I feel the Xbox is more one sighted then PS3. PSP is not too bad either UMD is as it is to play games and video, that is the only way one can see it is Universal, so it is a stretch in naming it UMD! You can write me off.. But companies hire people called "analysts." It is their job to predict the future and technology only moves forward by developing a decade into the future. Again, I'm having a lot of doubts as to your knowledge on the subject. There are people complaining about the expensive feature-lacking players. People are upset that Sony has jacked up the price of players since HD-DVD's demise. It is an issue, and it holds development back significantly. I find it repulsive and I do not endorse monopolies in any way. How is the xbox more "one-sided?" MS did not pull a sony and create an entirely new format at the cost of performance.. Slamman
I AM writing off fanboys only, if you're willing to objectively look at benefits and the products, I have no problem. Opinions are like A-holes, everyone has one. You can stick to Burn Sony at the Stake... I like some of their products and I can never agree the BD is slow, I have not noticed that at this point. Prove me wrong with a Stopwatch and a YouTube video, boot the same content on various machines, including the PS2! Also note, this is OFTEN done already with a cold boot to show off various laptops booting up OSes. The PS3 can do that too. (Reddog Linux IIRC). By One-Sided, their goal is a Next Gen system geared towards games and that's why people are siding on the game content side. PS3 is an all-around media center. If you feel it lacks something for the price, again that's opinion. It's natural other people may feel the same. I am happy with what I got for $430 bones. It does all the PSP did for $180 and more Edited April 23, 2008 by Slamman

(Reddog Linux IIRC) If you understood the hardware you'd know it has a meager 2x read speed, and some games are required to download information to the hard drive to make up for this and deliver somewhat tolerable loading times. GTA IV will be no exception, is this an advantage? No. Will people put spin on this fact and make it an advantage? Absolutely. Microsoft said the reason they did not use HD-DVD for games was that DVD is a lot faster. It delivers a better gaming experience. Developers are not really limited at all and GTA IV will deliver the same experience on both platforms thanks to advanced compression. Aristo_69
Yes, I agree whole heartedly, GTAIV should have been delayed until next year minimun so Microsoft can release a new brand of 360's with Blu-Ray and then release GTAIV in Blu-Ray only. I don't see any down side to that strategy. One senses a hint of sarcasm.
Slamman
2x 4x 6x 12x speed in terms of media I've debated two points... Media on different formats require such a thing, it's not possible to have a BD reader be as fast with data as a DVD, the DVD WAS slow when it was introduced... same thing is true of CD and CD burners, it took time for those to read data at faster rates and no reason not to expect the same from BD. At any rate, I need some sleep now. Don't worry for now. Rockstar are excited about pushing both systems, as Aaron Garbut explained in the posted interview this afternoon. They are excited and we should be in this regard too, the immediate gratification is from how they use this new engine to advance what gaming should mean to all. This game will set a new bar and I for one am very happy to proclaim that.
