Spawngasm
Nickelback is great! haha, yeah along with Fallout Boy and PATD... C'mon, Rockstar is better than that to have sh*t music like that in GTA. The debate rages... It's what you get for asking for modern music only in a modern setting. Modern music bites donkey dung. Actually... Black Crowes is a major breath of fresh air in the more modern era of new bands. I still haven't heard the arctic Monkeys... But most of my favorite new music is from old bands, or metal bands, oddly enough. If you were to wager, what song was the most trouble or most expensive for Rockstar to license??! I'd say Pink Floyd, myself, and god bless 'em they got it! I don't see Pink Floyd listed on there.

Well i know music licensing is rated by the all time popularity of the song and the artist... and then by the type of distrobution (and what kinda quantity it'll be in.) For a for profit game like GTA it's likely a lot. Single songs for student works can go for as much as 500 dollars.

voteneg
oh i hope rocky mountain way is on, i love that song It is. A guy who has the game sent me a picture of the soundtrack cd. And it had various famous selections from each station on it. Rocky Mountain Way was the classic rock stations song for the soundtrack cd. And yes. Joe Walsh rocks! EDIT: Here's pricing for licensing. Figure out where you think GTA fits in there. * Low-end TV usage (e.g. -- music is playing from a jukebox in a scene, but no one in the scene is paying any attention to the music) -- free (for exposure) to $2,000 for a 5-year license. In a film, the fee would be $10,000 in perpetuity. * A more popular song is worth more, perhaps $3,000 for TV and $25,000 for film * A song used as the theme song for a film might get $50,000 to $75,000. * Commercials fetch even more money: "a song can command anywhere from $25,000 to $500,000 plus per year. The typical range for a well-known song is $75,000 to $200,000 for a one year national usage in the United States, on television and radio." Been busy with PM, signal falling off again, etc. I see someone put Mr. Bungle in place of The Doors and Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. They better add those both in the dynamic portion of the playlists, or dammit, I'll have to!! What a bummer. I was so glad to see those. Then they replace it with a well worn Joe Walsh tune, I like it but it is rather heavy rotation on the radio still. I can't complain if they actually put Hotel California in but again someone said it and there is no proof Edited April 24, 2008 by Slamman

Slamman
BUMP Blink-182 = AWESOME!Fall out boy = Oh Jesus... Panic! At the disco = S'okay Nickelback = wtf? Yeah, if you check the Wiki page again, you'll see that Blink-182, Fall Out sh*t, and Nickelsuck have been removed. I for one am a bit happier now. That's to lull you into a false sense of security! THEN......!!!!! I'm enjoying Scorpions Live Bites CD right now. I would love In Trance on a GTA station, BTW They now edit the thing after I was seeing it twice with the same artists... At this point I am not sure why, with the leaked game n all I've now put on David Bowie's Ryko disc collection. Pity there's no classic live Cheap Trick there either Edited April 24, 2008 by Slamman
SaintJimmy
Holy sh*t! Dabs
I'm finding it very difficult to trust that Wikipedia list. The list of songs in the game keeps completely changing. I'm doubtful whether any of it's based on fact and rather just random people editing random songs they like into the Wiki. For example, I'd be shocked if Radiohead's Karma Police is in there. Much as I love the song, it seems really out of place for a GTA game.
Slamman
Steve Miller was also removed, I was hoping to replace Abracadabra with one of my suggestion.... Just a damn good idea all around!
getoverhere
most likely game store employees posting stuff. obviously they're checking all the SE stuff out. i would. If my special edition is opened when I get it I'm going to kick every one of those Gamestop employees asses. I guarantee it. Those worthless bags of piss don't seem to get that to some that's a collector's item, and therefore worthless when opened. On a side note more related to the topic - There is nothing punk rock about any of those bands they've listed except Bad Brains. The Sex Pistols were pretty much the New Kids on the Block. They are all a blemish on the Punk scene. I'm still rooting for The Pogues. They deserve it more than f*cking Fallout Boy. Sex Pistols weren't a blemish, what are you, some sort of crank? Everyone knows they kind of sucked once Sid Vicious replaced the other bloke but stuff like, 'Anarchy in the UK', 'God Save the Queen,' and 'Pretty Vacant' are great. Legendary, even. Not that I'd like to hear them on GTA. That's just because I don't think they'd fit in a contempary action-game. ... did someone compare Panic at the Disco to the Beatles?! Each to his own, but have some respect at least. If someone said that on the street here in Liverpool, I'd punch them straight in the face. Pure blasphemy! PATD are complete sh*te - total posers with no discernible talent. I have total faith in R*s ability to deliver on the soundtrack. VC made me a fan of eighties music, and SA got me into hip-hop and gangsta rap. I'm expecting some of the music to have a similar effect on my tastes this time round. LongDarkBlues
i'm let down by the soundtrack too. and i'm not just talking about the list on Wikipedia. Even the 100% confirmed real stuff is a letdown. It's not mainstream at all. Never heard of ANY of it. I don't like that. The best thing about Vice City and San Andreas was the soundtrack of POPULAR music. That's exactly why it's good. It'll be great to have music that hasn't been played to death over the last 20 years and actually get to discover something new rather than just have it play the same crap you could hear anywhere else. Damo.
There's no way that soundtrack is real. Rockstar themselves stated they weren't going for the big names. I think they'll keep their policy of having a few well-known classics, and a lot of underground stuff. If Panic at the Disco are in it, I'm not listening to the radio in the game. Slamman
Elton John on the rock station? Yeah right... Journey should be better, there's so much potential I don't see. Bob James in SA was excellent!!! Also Elton, or Uncle Elty as I call him, I am not a big fan but would have preferred Funeral for a Friend/Bleeding in my Hand or Saturday Night's Alright! Who concurs????
