Tornado Rex
Welcome to GTAforums - Stay out of the basement I wish some of you guys only really truly knew what that used to mean. Indeed @OP Here's the thing. GTAF is a lot like high school. You have the '08 and sometimes '07 members (aka. Freshmen) who think they know what the f*ck is going on around here when in fact they don't. Generally they stick to the IV forums which is why that place is a clusterf*ck of spam and useless sh*t. Then you have the '07 and '06 members (aka. Sophomores) who have been around long enough to know how this place works but are still trying to prove themselves. They tend to kind of keep to themselves and don't start sh*t. Sometimes they'll try to step over the line and act like they know what's going, to which an older member will jump in and put them in their place (as seen in my quote). A few of them have become respected, but it's rare. Then you have the '05 - '03 members (aka. Juniors) who have been here long enough to know what's going on. They get along with most of the '01 and '02 members. Many are Mods and Admins. They get the inside jokes and can start them, they have been accepted by the community. Last you have the '01 and '02 members (aka. Seniors). We will generally lurk. Posting occasionally to straighten something up about how sh*t goes down around here or to put a younger member in their place. We've seen it all and been through it all. Most of us take a very weird and kind of creepy pride in this place. We've seen it grow through the years and in a way this kind of feels like our "home". Bottom line, you're an '08 member. Until you earn your respect around here you're best off not starting sh*t. It will only end bad for all that are involved. P.S. 2) You have at least 1000 posts. That's a load of sh*t. Post counts don't mean sh*t to anyone that matters. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~

Algonquin Assassin
I'm thinking of staying the f*** away from the GTA IV section, even after release. Just too many morons, and pointless crap that has nothing to do with GTA IV. Plus it's going to be hell there the next few days. I'm thinking of staying in this part for a while. Digïtál £vîl
I made that smiley so long ago for this forum it seems. I'm surprised it is still used. I think it is the only reason I stay on these forums. So I can get a sense of happiness and fulfillment every time I see someone use my smiley when they are depressed and extremely sad. Does this make me an evil person for retaining joy from another's pain and suffering?

Does this make me an evil person for retaining joy from another's pain and suffering? Those are tears of joy. And no, cruelty is the only pleasure people such as ourselves can get out of life anymore. Being nice just doesn't have that..."zest" that only crushing someones dreams can deliver. ILovePolarBears
The only time people have been rude to me here is when I venture into the GTAIV forum. Although, it seems people are rude to everyone in that forum, so I shrug it off.
Rashon.
I'm surprised that the main focus in the beginning of this topic was on how hideous/sexy Hilary Duff is and not on the GTA IV poster in the background...

Cursed
Welcome to GTAforums - Stay out of the basement I wish some of you guys only really truly knew what that used to mean. I've been told... still, I must say I am not a fan of the IV section, and spend most of my time in General Chat and the Modding Section, I try my best not to show that I'm an 07'er, it's just an unfortunate join date. DidierSucks
P.S. 2) You have at least 1000 posts. That's a load of sh*t. Post counts don't mean sh*t to anyone that matters. This has got to be the rudest forum I've come across.. And there I was thinking I'd fit right in being a big GTA fan. Don't take it to heart, some of these people are just bastards. @DidierSucks - Rick-rolling has, and never will be, cool. You see in the GTA IV forum, you have people that don't know anyone well enough to respect them. They abuse one another because they're immature and spout sh*t using the anonymity of the Internet. In the Off-Topic forum, you have people that have been here long enough to think they can get away with acting like idiots. They also know each other a lot more, so abuse each other because they know what they're like. Also, you will not be respected here until 1) You Rick Roll someone 2) You have at least 1000 posts. Cheers, and try not to take anyone here very seriously. EDIT: As demonstrated below, this includes me Normally I never write retorts because I abhor internet debates, since, as Ottae points out, the anonymity of the internet can lead to a lot of sh*t. However, I am going to, this time, mostly since I was trying to help the guy out, and I know I shouldn't need to worry about that particular problem from the two quotee's above. I will start by admitting that I was unclear and that is probably 90% of the issue here. My attempt at self-parody fails profoundly. What I am trying to get at is that the forums are complex places and that there isn't just one way to be "respected", nor, consequently, is there really one all-encompassing reason why people are f*ckwits. For example, if you take me seriously and believe you need to spam memes and rack up 1000 posts ASAP, well, see the above for reasons why that's simply not going to work. If you pick one particular way to be "respected", you'll never get perfect, board-wide homogenous respectability. Don't even bother. Someone out there likes Demarest, and someone probably hates Tank, for an off-the-cuff example. Tank's major contribution to the forum, if you're not aware, is that he created the damn thing No matter how hard you try to contribute and be a positive influence, someone's always going to have a bone to pick. You just have to get used to it and take in a larger perspective -> What are a handful of assholes compared to the majority of forumers? If that sort of abuse really does bother you, which I understand, it's a regrettable time to be joining since the influx of new users will bring newfound pricks. At the same time, of course, there will be many users who will be intelligent, thoughtful, and valued posters. That's not say, since there's no way to achieve respectability (whatever that might be), that you shouldn't try. If you consider an analogy, just because a man can't sprint 100m in 2 seconds, doesn't mean he shouldn't try to run as fast as he can if that's his goal. You should, at least, take yourself seriously and post with dignity, but again, don't be so tight that the vitriole of random twits on the 'net gets to you. Other people, generally, are subject to varying levels of f*ckwittity and quality. So in summary, don't let the pricks bother you, we're mostly nice guys, and don't feel like there's a modal personality that you need to adapt into that will rid you of pricks and bring wide-ranging respect and goodwill. Errata: Post count is only important in posts are required to communicate and interact with other members. A high post count usually means little, but if you want to be on good terms with forumers, you have to communicate. I'm not advocating some sort of numerical system of superiority, I'm just saying, if you don't post, no one knows you. As if that were a great feat of deduction, regardless Edited April 24, 2008 by DidierSucks
