visionist
I have a PS3 at last, I have a PC with broadband AOL connection, via an AOL/BT Voyager 105 modem. A modem with no extra ethernet cable port thingie. I have an ethernet cable, one end in the console, the other end in the relevant port on the back of my PC tower. The console "CANNOT GET A CONNECTION", The PC refuses to acknowledge the PS3's very existence... How the Hell do I do this?
B4rto
Try connecting the ethernet cable that leads from your PS3 directly into the ethernet port on your modem. (Remove the ethernet cable that is connecting your computer to the modem first) This works for me on my Xbox 360, although i've never tried connecting up through my PC. *Off-Topic* - Not sure if this is all MODEMS, but my modem won't let my PC and Xbox 360 access the internet at the same time. Its either one or the other. If you wanted to do this, you would need a ROUTER.
SyphonPayne
Looks like you're going to need a router.
ILovePolarBears
I recommend a simple switch or hub as the most cost effective solution to your dilemma. My modem has just one ethernet port as well, and I prefer to have my main computer as well as my consoles wired, so I bought a 5 port switch for 20 bucks at Best Buy. It works wonderfully. Yeah, it also saves you from port forwarding.
visionist
Thanks for the advice everybody. I borrowed an old Router from a friend but it is incompatible with my AOL (Assholes on line) broadband service. Looks like I need to call them and see if they can provide a router of their own.
