Contemptforlaw
K, so, I just heard about the Chicago media responding to the GTA IV billboards on the side of the Chicago Transit buses. I'm sure there are many such situations around North America. The few are going to ruin it for the many. Most people are aware of what they are allowed and not allowed to do. The laws govern our society. Music, food, media, practically everything is a side-effect of our laws. *****If that woman had never won her lawsuit against Mc'D's for spilling her coffee in her own lap, would us as a people be better off? What if that immigrant dude never won his lawsuit for writting off his motorhome because the thing apparently drove by itself? (he made coffee while driving because he didnt understand what cruise control was) Would we as a people be better off????****** THE FEW RUIN IT FOR THE MANY!!!! Personally, I think our culture is doomed. Humans are animals. Our instinct it to go out, kill the dinosaur, and bring meat home to the female mate. She is taking care of the kids while daddy hunts. In todays culture, the testosterone we all share is still wanting us to go and hunt. Instead, we go to the grocery store (or Mc D's ) get our food and rush home to bust some heads on Xbox. It's safer than Lacrosse (trust me I know), cheaper than gambling, and less stinky than weed. If people are expected to be docile and submissive, our instincts will eventually get the better of us. Ever notice when a woman usually wants a man to "run to the store"? Hmm, actually, I stop there because that would really make for a long post... VladimirGlebov
You mentioned GTA IV once, and then I lost you. I think you are upset about people asking for the ads to be taken down. Clearly, you aren't aware of recent activity in the area. Chicago has had some violent shootings in the past weeks and months, and parents are upset that there're advertisements with people with guns and looking tough on public buses for children to see. It sends the wrong image, especially when so many are hurt and affected by the violence.

Most of the things you are saying are technically true. Some people are upset. Some people believe it is in poor taste. However, you cannot state that it DOES send the wrong image as though it is categorical fact, because morality is relative. The wrong message for WHO, exactly? The people affected by the violence, yes? The second we begin pandering to everyone who has their feelings hurt, culture simply fails. I'm offended by bulletins telling me to accept Jesus as my Savior since I'm not Christian. I'm offended by country music stars...well...just generally speaking. This is simply a matter of cowardly public policy, of individuals in power who, instead of following their duty to run a fair and lawful city, instead simply pander to the most sensationalist, most vocal constituents. Chicago should be ashamed of it's public officials.

If you saw a huge ACCEPT JESUS poster in a Hasidic Jewish community, wouldn't you expect it to be wanted to be taken down by the people living there? Would I expect the people in the area to want it removed? Yes. Should it be? No. That's really the issue. We cannot pander to everyone who gets hurt or offended. It simply cannot be done. Free expression must be as close as possible to absolute to be worth a damn thing. No matter how much it hurts emotionally, if it is not infringing upon constitutional rights or public safety, it should not be removed.

nadalcameron
On a more serious note, I'd like to note that the rights of one and freedom of speach, etcetera, are all well and good. In most cases, yes, its true it should be allowed. I do have to say though that rambling on about how were failing because we care about each others feeligns and attempt to make it so that people can not forcibly make others uncomfortable or feel threatened, such as the theoretical 'Accept Jesus' poster in a hasidic jew community. Is there to much PC'ness out there? Yes. Is there to much ass kissing? Yes. Should we not attempt to do anything to ensure the other people we share our communities with are comfortable? No, we should. As for removing the signs? I'm not exaclty aware of the full story. if what is said is true about it being done because it was in bad taste due to local events? Thats fine. All I know is part of the fox news broadcast of it, where they put the spin and tried to edit interviews and the like to make it sound like the posters were at fault. Thats wrong. If those crybabies want GTA Ads taken down, they need to stop advertising Jesus to the masses. Especially those stupid "Real Men Love Jesus" stickers. That has to be the most offensive thing I have seen coming from people who are supposed to love their fellow man and not judge. F*cking hypocrites...I mean Hypo-Christians. Hehe, oops on the dinosaur, how about a mammoth? Point is that we have no evolved as fast as our culture. It is causing problems that are going to continue to compile until the powers that be (federal law) decide to act on this. Until then, I will simply go about my business and not watch the news since I believe in the "conspiracy theory" to a point. Oh, and people havent been to the moon yet..... Oh, and the name calling shows your intellectual prowess as well.
lepoisson
Go study 1st amendment case law for a little while. Really, do it. You'll be amazed! Neo-Nazis marching through Jewish communities, the KKK erecting crosses (burning or not) during the Holidays, Jack Thompson! Etc etc. I have to say, you can't have freedom of speech and then say "oh no, you can't have that". It doesn't work that way, then why have it at all? batanga
That's some flintstones stuff... or YEC stuff can't distinguish between the two. Good thing rules aren't that strict here, but it's still sometimes annoying how much the media spins things.

I agree there, people are such terrible hypocrites, especially christians, one moment they preach acceptance and to love your fellow man, next moment they're in your face telling you your way of life is completely wrong and you're going to hell if you don't follow their ways.
