FAR-CRY MASTER
I just upgraded to the nightmare that is vista. I have up to date video card drivers & a clean legit vista + S.A install. But I’m getting really bad fps. like 5-10??? & it also feels like the CPU is lagging bad. My specs: Intel 3.6Ghz, 2GB RAM, Radeon X1950 Pro. @ 1280x1024 3xAA very high details. On XP at these specs it ran perfect, hardly any issues at all. But on vista its completely unplayable. So has anyone got any advice on how to get S.A to run properly on my setup with vista???? I Love San Andreas, & are desperate for answers. I really feel like going back to XP. EDIT: (this problem also happens on Vice City.) thanks. Zera
I don't have much experience with Vista, but you should try running it in compatibility mode. Also, you likely won't be able to use the same specs without a notable performance hit. That's just how it is in Vista at the moment. You might also run into unexpected issues or crashes (The video drivers are likely the ones to blame, specially Nvidia). I would roll back to XP right now. If you don't play next-gen games like Crysis, it's just not worth the upgrade (Wait another year or so).
Girish
Why not try changing the display settings? Turn off anti-aliasing and reduce the draw distance.
FAR-CRY MASTER
Hmmm, dont know what happened, but it seems to running good now at those specs on VISTA. maybe 8-10% performance decrease, but i assume thats because of vista. Anyway its now playable.
zaroba
while your system specs were fine for xp, xp itself only used around 64mb of ram. vista will use 512mb to 1gb of ram. due to vista using a lot of ram, theres less ram available for the games, so they run slower. if you have a 64bit cpu and if your vista is also 64 bit, toss another 2gb of ram in there, it'll fly. Vinnie
It should run fine at that spec. Did you do an upgrade instead of a clean install. If you did an upgrade delete the .set file and you should be good to go.
squeakyg
I feel that my graphics card under-performs on Vista. I have a GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB. However, all games run slightly worse than expected. It's not bad enough to consider it "broken"... it's just a little disappointing. It's more like a card from 2005. I installed San Andreas the other day, and it runs fine. However, I expected it to be above 60fps at all times, but it dips into the 50's and 40's a lot. Strangely, none of the settings (anti-aliasing, detail, resolution, etc) seem to make any difference whatsoever. It gets exactly the same FPS at 640x480 low detail no-AA, as it does at 1680x1050 high detail, full-AA.
