People are starting to see how monopolistic MS is trying to be by buying out companies. I don't like monopolies and while I've never had any complaints with Sony w/regard to their hardware- still don't like monopolies. I don't think I'd be too put out of GTA were a forever Sony-only offering, just glad that others can and will get their hands on it. Console-exclusive games basically cut out the other portion of the market- to me, that is not good business strategy. As for the DLC, whatever it is- if I have to pay for it above and beyond what I've already paid for the game, that will serve to give me pause. I should say that it gives me pause because it can't be free. DDR Midian - anything that can alter or affect your life in some way is worth looking into and knowing something about. When the original Playstation came out people probably said well Sony won't buy out sega and vice versa. Also R* said they were making a PS3 exclusive, not that they were entirely making PS3 exclusives. And no, competition doesnt make great games, competition makes cheap games. killingyouguy Posted April 22, 2008 Share Posted April 22, 2008 $50M to Rockstar. Let's say GTA IV sells the same as Halo 3 on the 360: 8 million copies (it could outsell it). Now lets say half of them get the DLC, which is likely (hell, it will probably be more). So 4 million people spending probably around $22. That's $88M back to Microsoft right there. More than made their money back. Double that for the second pack and you have $176M. Microsoft triple their money. And if they charge a bit more or sales are more around 9 million than 8, then they're making nearly 4 times their outlay. And factor into that the people that will be forking out money on XBL Gold Accounts (and possibly buying consoles) and it's even MORE. Hell, worst case scenario is they only double their money. It wasn't Microsoft pulling a stunt when they paid R* that money but a sound business decision. For $50M they undermine Sony, possibly establish a good relationship with R*, bring in new customers (especially to XBL), maybe inspire more console sales and they also are likely to make that $50M back three fold.
