it really pisses me off when sh*tty, unfit parents blame the state of their mentally unstable kids on video games. I think the media have made blaming GTA to f*cking easy for parents to do. if your kids a twisted f*ck up the chances are there parents done something wrong in bringing them up, not gtas fault.

What people don't understand is that violent crime rates in general have steadily decreased in the US over the years. It kills me that people are blaming all the (low existence of) violence on video games. If anything people should be studying the affects of video games on the mind and see if there is a correlation between the decrease in violent crime! (I know I'm preaching to the choir, it just makes my blood boil).

 

What it really boils down to is US politics and that's it. Parents want something to blame instead of themselves, politicians want the votes from angry parents and so they go after these easy targets. Lawyers want money from big video game manufacturers. It's like suing McDonalds or the big smoking companies. They aren't FORCING you to eat their food, they aren't FORCING you to smoke! Sure their ads may be targeted at a young audience, but what marketing campaign (*cough*except for most violent videogames (surprise)*cough*) isn't?

Blaming video games for society's problems is nothing new and I don't see why it should come as any surprise that GTA is yet again the target of this rubbish. If anything I think this news item is great because it's further promoting that the almighty GTA4 will be released on April 29th. All free press for what's going to be the best thing to happen since October 2004.

 

God I wish April 29th would just hurry up. Don't want to brag but I'm from New Zealand where it's April 29th before anywhere in the world and we'll have the game in our grubby little hands before you all!

A child of 10 can appreciate a story without taking it literally, they know what's right and wrong, they can shoot people in a game and know not to in real life. Why would they want to?

 

The reason why everything is so censored for kids is simple... adults are f*cking scared of them! Scared that one day they'll be too old to maintain control, and the kids will be THEIR boss.

It's really a shame to see this happen while movies don't get attacked nearly as much. Especially since movies are more graphic because its REAL PEOPLE committing the acts. Who are you more likely to imitate, a real person, or a drawn figure??

 

Also, movies can contain full nudity and more sexual content, while not being attacked. Some of these movies are even played on network television, so any child that can press a button can see it! Everything in GTA has been portrayed on tv one way or another if you think about it.

 

Violence? Oh yes

PARTIAL nudity? Yes

Profanity? ooooo no 'f' word

Prostitutes? Yes

Drugs and use of drugs? Yes

Crimes? Yes

 

Oh I forgot, TV doesnt enforce its ratings either. All it says is "Viewer discretion advised" Stores are supposed to check for id's/licenses.

 

If anyone is to blame, its the stores for not enforcing the id checks, and the parents, for bad parenting. If you dont want your children sneaking mature games in the house, get your lazy butt up and monitor them.

I saw nothing wrong with that poster. People are a panicy, overreactive race. And that includes EVERY nationality of people. I saw in the Guiness BOWR, that an advert for KFC where people are talking with their mouths full got over 1,000 complaints. Over 1,000! Sweet Zombie Jesus, Its not that bad. And the Banned XBOX 360 advert with a bunch of people making finger guns and going "bang". We as the dominant species on Earth need to get a grasp on what is bad and whats not.
