lesfleanut
I downloaded the vista transformation pack and it's giving me an error when I try to run the EXE. I'm running XP pro on a macbook with all the latest updates. I asked this question in the desktop thread but nobody has noticed yet and I don't like waiting. TenEightyOne
Things to check; Is the package you got DEFINITELY compatible with the port of XP and the setup that you're using? Are you using it through an emulator, or as a base op-sys? If you're using an emulator then does the ROM image you have loaded accept the machine code for your upgrade? Is your package corrupt? (download it again and compare the files). It seems very likely that the problem is one of these. I would mail Microsoft.com tech support if these checks don't get you anywhere - I find that they're very good about 80% of the time. Hope some of this helps... lesfleanut
I'm using boot camp, so it's not an emulation. Well, I guess the bios is being emulated but that shouldn't matter. I suppose the package could be corrupt, I'll try downloading it again. Is this a respectable source? Link.
derty
Don't use that thing, it's not worth it, and there a LOT of fraud files out there designed to install rootkits. (however, if anyone knows the original source, I'd like a link) Instead, get this: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enh...tiPatcher.shtml and start googling for MS Visual Styles. Find one (many on deviant art) and download it. They ALL look way better than the sh*tty vista interface, and this is a solid app I'm showing you. Follow the directions exactly. Otter
Did you read his 'user's guide' for the previous version? I seem to remember a step that's integral to installing XP themes/makeovers, something to do with permanently disabling a specific system file. Yes, you remind me: Permanently replacing, rather than disable. He needs the patcher I linked (and a better theme than vista )
lesfleanut
Jesus christ with the rootkits. f*ck windows in it's stupid ass, I'm just going to leave it as is and use it for only the couple programs I need it for.

lesfleanut
What DO you use it for? Basically tagging my mp3 collection, and playing a couple of old games. I'm starting to remember why I switched over in the first place though.
Democrab
First of all, if you get the right version, it works fine (I have it right now), and Derty, its your personal opinion if the Vista theme sucks or not, he may like it, and last I saw, all most all the themes for that patcher, were either ripoffs/recolours of MS's Royale theme in MCE, or not that good anyway, I know thats personal opinion too, but you have to realize we don't all share your thoughts on whats good and whats bad. GTA3Freak-2001
You are talking about the Vista Transformation Pack that Windows X created? If so then if you download it from the official web page you can be sure its not corrupt or dodgy. Link

I'm running XP pro on a macbook with all the latest updates. I asked this question in the desktop thread but nobody has noticed yet and I don't like waiting. I got your solution, If it says some thing like NCRC check, then do the following steps: copy your vista transformation pack.exe to D drive(not windows drive) main folder(not any subfolder) rename it shortly like vtp.exe go to start menu and click run then type cmd. when the command prompt appears type the following D: and the drive letter will change to D drive.like thisD:\> then type vtp.exe/NCRC and enter and voila your installation would start.
