I've put 50 + hours in Lost Odyssey, and 50 + hours in Blue Dragon and have yet to have an rrod. I've probably put 200 hours into my 360 total.

I think this article is complete hyperbole. Yes RROD may be a problem, but I've never seen a "professional" site overreact this much.

lol rrod for excessive use lololol... it wont happen, not if you know how to look after your console.. my 1st 360 died after 6 months, (poor ventilation where i used 2 keep it) now on my second console (which was manufactured a month before my 1st) is now a year and a half old and not had a single problem with it.., all ya gotta do is make sure the thing can breath, if you haven't already, unclip the front panel, remove the HDD and unclip the Grey panel on tha left n right side and Hoover it out, you will be shocked... i done this to mine and its gone from slightly warm after 6hours+ cod4 to ice cold.... and no i dont have any so called add-ons that make it cooler as you just dont need them... Its sat on top of draws on its own with nothing surrounding it with the window open above it... most bricking consoles are down to poor ventilation, or blocked vents... they are like humans, if ya cant breath you will suffocate!!

Clockwork Ninja
It is a fanboy piece simply because he assumes the console could break while playing it. 8m halo 3's were sold and i don't recall mass rrod issues all over the net. GTA4 will be just the same as any other game in terms of hardware. If its going to break it'l break regardless of the game inside the disc tray. As i said before i've played my 360 for a long long time with loads of games, why would it suddenly break because of GTA4? So it is a fanboy statement to even think about it because the % of it breaking is exactly the same as if you were playing any game.

The author differentiates between Halo usages and expected GTA:IV usage. One of these is higher and more system intensive than the other - can you guess which one? Is it the open-ended, sandbox game set in a massive city populated by dozens of on screen npcs and cars? Or is it the one that takes place in smaller, confined one-way environments with a small number of npcs on screen at any time? The point the author is making, if you missed it, is that more people will play GTA a lot longer and more often than they played Halo 3. And since the red ring o'death has been linked to prolonged usage, the author hypothesizes that this game could cause many more 360 consoles to break down. He's not saying all 360's will break, but that the widespread appeal of the GTA franchise, along with it's minimum 30 hours of gameplay, will cause many of the 360's with the potential to breakdown to do so.

It's not a great article and it does rely upon speculation, but it isn't fanboyism. Now if he made some comments about the 360 being a glorified piece of plastic with a tendency to meltdown, and then said that the PS3 was by comparison a much, much better system, then he would be making a fanboy argument.

Thats great but it forgets one thing. Sandbox games only render the area you are in. Ever drive really fast and find the part of the city you are driving to hasen't quite loaded? Next your be saying games like Crysis which are terrain games don't use much memory. I've got a media degree, the piece is a fanboy piece. I'll re-iterate for the 3rd time, what is different about GTA4 that will make peoples 360's explode? Does it have better graphics then say games like Oblivion? Nope. Does it have better driving mechanics and sounds compared to say Forza 2? Probably not. Does it have better shooting mechanics and physics then say games like Cod4 or Bioshock? Probably not. Does it have buildings that can go as far as the eye can see and go as high as the eye can see like games like Crackdown? Probably not. Does it have multiple complicated npc's on screen in detail like Dead Rising? nope. Does it have a sophisticated dialogue system like say Mass Effect? nope. Does it have the customization of games such as Saints Row? nope. Etc.. etc...

So i'm sorry mate but it's just a case of inteligence and for the author to think it would push the console to it's limits even though games like Oblivion and Bioshock ran on it fine; even though they push even the high spec pc's shows that the guy not only thinks less of the 360's capability but seems to magically forget the games it already has. GTA 4 will be a great game but it's not going to push consoles anywhere near what other games have done. So that shows the author is either a fanboy or just an amateur at writing articles.

The writer may be a fanboy or he may just be pointing out Microsofts one flaw to date, it's dependability. I love my 360. Hated the original Xbox with a passion - it's huge console and even clunkier controller... It just screamed "Gaming Mountain Dew style FTW!" to me... I loved my Playstation and PS2.

But man, I fell in love with the 360. Such a sweet machine. The failures leave a bad taste in my mouth though.

I've got my refurbished system and I'm counting on everything being alright.

I'm not sure what you're sayin there though... Based on what I read the guy wasn't talking about the game's performance - just the amount of time people will play it. I used to play games all the time - but hey, I'm 26. Got a job, a mortgage, and sh*t to do. I didn't beat Halo3 (not even close... didn't have the originals so I got bored with the story). I played COD4 and then stopped. I will play GTA4 ALLLLL the f*cking time. So that's one XBOX that's gonna be put through the paces more than usual. I'm sure everyone on this forum at least will probably be playing a bit more than usual. It's the guys like me, who haven't had time to play alot and have a sick addiction to the madness that is GTA who may be the litmus test.

No no my point which some have misunderstood is quite simple.

The author argues that there will be more people playing their 360's then ever at the sametime. GTA 4 is quite possibly the most anticipated game for gamers the world over. He suggests because of this fact the chances of those 360's dying increases because a higher poportion will be playing it.

The way he is wrong which i have tried to explain is GTA 4 as awesome as it will be will not be some all powering performance driven game. By this i mean if it was released on say the PC you wouldn't need a Crysis/Bioshock type rig to run it, the demands on the system will be relativly light in comparison to the things i linked.

Now as i also tried to say there have been games out there that have had big openings such as Halo 3 where 4.5m people were playing it. This means that that release shows that this mass blow up theory is false because it didn't happen then nor with the Cod4 release. Its like people who talked about the milenium bug that once the clock hit 0 all the PC's would blow. It's just a scaremongering piece that is pure fiction as has no shread of evidence other then opinion to back it up.

It's like saying more PS3's will get that error code problem because more people are buying the console etc and if i created a post saying that you would call me silly.

The fact of the matter is your console has the same odds of dying no matter what game you play. If you played GTA 4 12hrs straight it has the same chances of dying if you played Bioshock 12hrs straight.

I hope this makes more sense

Now listen hear you PS3 fan boys u can go join ur boyfriend by writing negative things about the Xbox 360, the console will not crash due to RROD because of game time,

i believe The Online Servers will cause an Xbox Live crash and that may be the only effect we see but for somebody to come out and say "oooo noooooo becos of hardcore gamers ull get RROD" is pure BS

Everyone who agrees with this article completely ignores the masses that play online for hours in games like CoD 4 and Halo 3. People log countless hours in multiplayer that can't even begin to compare to a single player campaign.

You might be right. I hope your right.

I think you underestimate how many people will play GTA, but I guess we will only know for sure in a few weeks. I also wonder where your getting your techincal information. Visually it may not be all that, but what about Euphoria, how much does that tax the system? Do you hvae a link to a source?

yeah dude, this seems like total fanboy BS.

if microsoft was in really that big of a risk with that big of a launch, there'd be OFFICIAL press news about it by now.

by official i mean ign, gamespot, penny-arcade, GI, something.

but all there is, is the "gameplayer" garbage.

google it and no other sites discuss it, and if they do it's a link to gameplayer.

plus, are we taking rockstar for idiots?

dont you think they wouldn't let this happen, and they'd be aware of a problem that big?

thats just one of those great things about forums, oh the many fanboys.

for either console, a tv show, or anything like that, it's just annoying.

That article was written by a pretty big PS3 fanboy. Looks like another one trying to justify the purchase of their inferior console.

I wish you would stop calling the PS3 inferior when clearly the 360 has reliability issues

there is no right or wrong choice when it comes to buying consoles you just go with your gut and what ever happens happens

MS made a mistake by releasing it a year earlier than it's competitors and they need to be prepared to workk on the RRoD problem, just as sixaxis was an ill conceived rip off of the Wii-mote

I don't think that the problem will be as widespread as the article makes it out to be, I know people who have never had a problem with their 360's and I know people who have had the RRoD many times.

It all boils down to choice, Last year I was a 100% grade A PS3 fanboy, now I'd be happy to welcome a 360 to my gaming area, I just don't have the cash. On another note, I'd like to see all this fanboy BS dissapear. I mean does it really matter what an indvidual decides to spend their hard earned dollars on, not to me it doesn't.

Fanboy bullsh*t... The launch ps3 will start to break soon...

P.S. I dont think any system was made to be played constantly. The manuals always say to take a break every couple of hours or so.

Fanboy site -- That author keeps talking about Xbox 360 and keeps blaming on it for RRoD...Please....Not many people are getting RRoD unless they buy new new Xbox 360.

I do not believe that author since he is a PS3 fanboy...

I still like PS3, but he is being....fanboy...

I like Xbox 360 and PS3 both -- do not try to correct me.

All the article is basically saying is that your Xbox could get the Red Rings of Death. This has always been the case. It really doesn't have anything to do with GTA. My Xbox has Gotten RRoD twice before but that had nothing to do with GTA.

but i bet it had to do with overheating.... i bet i would get the ring the first day of gta if i had a box!

PEOPLE the tips to stop the red ring of death are:

put it horizontally

dont put it on carpet

put it in a well ventalated area

turn it OFF at the power switch when your NOT USING IT (this is a major one most people dont do)

these tips have worked for me and all my friends and ours has never broken down or got RROD

Exactly, people just don't know how to treat these appliances.

I had a friend who always put his 360 on the bed when he was playing it,

and he got an RRoD shortly after, he had some part of the blanket covering the vents.

It was his own stupid fault, and I bet that 75% of all the RRoD's is because of improper placement or abuse.

I and a dozen or so friends of mine never had problems for years.

Buy a second 360 if yours dies, dur? It's $280, that's not a lot of money. I'm buying a second 360 on the 28th just to be sure. Not really a big deal.

Sony is the worst corporation on the planet. All they want is your money. How many dead PS3s can you buy on ebay right now...........look em up. Has sony extended their warranty 3 years? No.

Ive got a PS3 strictly because it was the cheapest blu-gay player I could find at the time and I'll use it for GT Prologue. Other than that, sony sucks.

honestly, why hasn't this been locked yet?

it was obvious from the start that it's Fanboy BS and shouldn't be in the official news section to begin with.

(though i'm a 360 owner)

to all you fanboys on both sides:

eat a dick.

and for fun, a horrible illustration:

8===> wow.gif

though truthfully i think it should be an extra hairy dick. honestly you assholes just need to shut up. they're both good consoles in their own ways and both negative in others.

granted the RROD is a pretty big tech issue, the 360 doesnt really have too many other major negatives. as for the ps3, i just think it's too expensive.

waiting to pick mine up once they start selling the MGS 4 & PS3 bundle.

How many people have come saying that their 360 has had multiple RRoD problems and they still have their consoles.

Wouldn't that just be a testament as to how good the console is (for software) that they would rather deal with an 'inferior' (f*ck off fan boys) console than trade over?

I own a 360 have had RRoD 2 times now due to ME not taking care of my console. I don't blame MS, they didn't come to my house and treat my xbox like sh*t! It has been over a year now since the last time coz i have started to take care of it and no problems what-so-ever!

Don't post sh*t about consoles being superior/inferior to the next coz the next gen is just around the corner, so, the tables will change again.

Its kinda easy to see PS3 fan-boyish stuff here, since GTA started for most people on the PS1-2, and thats just the way it is i guess.
