Instead of Microsoft trying solve this RRoD problem, they distract you guys with DLC and free live subscription.

"next week could be the biggest anti-climax since the end of Halo 2."

Hahah!

Microsoft are f*cked, I think they'll have made a big loss by the end of the GTA IV hype. Not that it'd affect them anyway.

Their exclusive DLC hasn't drawn in enough customers to counter the reliability issues with the console/service. And they paid a big amount for it (to me it seems that anyway).

PS3 sales have been beating the 360's lately and I'll guess if there's a lot of RRoD's then they'll gain even more customers over the next month or so.

Damn every one of you who call this guy a fanboy. Just because he wrote something positive about the PS3 and something negative about the 360 auto-f*cking-maticaly makes him a "sup3r omfg [email protected]!". For f*ck sake. I could understand so if he was spreading lies or blowing things out of proportion, but he isn't. The same can be said for people who say good things about the 360 and vise versa. Stop being so thick headed. This forum is about GTA and not what console is better. GTA is going to be the same on both. Case f*cking closed.

yup, xbox fanboys gallore in this thread. But its ok, they always show up once their console is up for a bashing. They cant really take al this criticism, cous their little brains go on overload. Poor little fanboys. Have a cookie.gif

You are pretty hypocritical here. The guys opinion is completely unfounded by any data or facts. When an unfounded opinion is stated about the PS3, those guys go psycho. Evidently, according to them, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the PS3, the fail rate is negative 342% and it sh*ts gold bricks every 4 hours. The 360 isn't perfect, no, but the PS3 certainly isn't perfect either. I'm no fanboy but I do hate when people like you and the article author skew the truth and hypocritically bash the other system's users in personal attacks. It's like console racism or something.

I think the article has a good point. I dont want the xbox to fail, but lets face it: the next months we will be playing allot of hours at a time... and Ps3 (Wii/Ds/PSP) owners dont have a RROD to worry about (other sorts of failures set aside, and the amount of the faillurerate hitting the xbox 360). Look at the amount of topics created by people fearing this RROD, its insane.

Allot of people are buying a different platform because of the redlight district on the xbox. From a Wii to a Ps3 to ds'ses and psp's, maybe even investing in a powerfull pc or macbook. Xbox is losing ground were you like it or not, and thats not a fanboy statement. And thats a pitty cous we need good rivalry in the gaming industry. Good rivalry produces good games.

Ow and my post was directed @ the fanboys, not the people who are in for a sane conversation about this subject.

Well for starters the game is released on a weekday, so many of us will be work or college. That should help. Secondly I've never had a problem with my Xbox, I've had it for just over a year now, no problems with heat at all. I've even leaft it on for some serious hours without it heating up. A whole weekend when I went for a weekend break, (electricity bill didn't find it funny). So a few hours on GTA shouldn't be that bad.

A final thing. To whomever called a 360 owner sad for not being able to live without their console for a week... I would absolutely love to see you give up your console for a week, perhaps the day GTA is released, after wating YEARS for it. Although with a comment like that your probably about 12 anyway.

people wonder why they get RROD, its cuz they keep them in them tight cabnets with no air space, if you keep it out in the open its fine, had my xbox since it was released and i've had no problems watsoever.

The have been no recent reports of RROD on the new consoles, because the failure rate has dramatically gone done.

That 30% number is from like a year ago and that is bogus in my opinion.

Actually, just browse this Forums. There's like every day a new Thread with people whose 360 failed, including the Elite.

The only thing that is bogus is that "overheating" causes the RRoD, it does not.

It's caused by a soldering point that breaks off when the consoles cool down (after it is heated up), so usually the more you play the higher is the risk of it to fail.

And to housingkev:

1) Learn to spell properly.

2) If you take a look at the upcoming games list you'll be surprised as how great the line-up of PS3 games this year is.

Wow. This topic was just dying to become a fanboy war. This time it's the PS3 boys' folly since they posted this factless, exaggerated article bloated with opinion and supported it. I hate it when XBox guys do this, but damn. The PS3 guys act like they do nothing wrong! The majority of them are elitist pricks who have a major superiority complex. The exaggeration of the PS3's superiority is ridiculous. The consoles are not that much different in terms of power under the hood! Sure, Sony has Blu-Ray and I hope it works out for them. I don't really care about it yet, seeing as developers have yet to tap the storage capacity, but to each his own. Don't tout it as a virtue (in games) if it's not really a virtue yet. The processing power is marginally better than the 360's, but not enough to matter. The RAM is the same, and the GPUs are comparable. Everyone knows there has been an RRoD epidemic. WHO CARES?!? It is on the decline, even though it is still much more frequent than it should be. Please stop using that as a point of argument.

There are faults to both systems. I personally prefer the 360. You may prefer the PS3, but don't bash me on a personal level and "feel sorry" for me and poke fun just because I have the console that I prefer. Get off the high horse and anticipate GTA greatness with the rest of us.

It's so f*cking simple:

Ps3: +Blu-Ray

+(Other hardware thingies that are better then xbox 360's)

-NO DLC

-PSN (Personally think this is a minus since Live is so well implemented)

Xbox 360: +DLC

+Bigger Community

+ More Games (not for long ofc)

- NO BLU-RAY

- Chance of getting RROD (Chance is decreasing dramatically because of improvements)

Honestly, I am in the situation i have to choose between these too, and I'm going for the 360 (even though i have the money for a ps3) because of the downloadable content and the fluent Multiplayer.

Too me gameplay and experience is worth more then an npc's head being less "rectangular".

I don't really know what the worry is about, if you follow the Xbox guidelines and just have a fifth-teen minute break every hour then it'll be fine.

GTA IV is a hard core game of course; however it doesn't mean it will definitely break every or most Xbox 360 consoles. I've had my Xbox for over a year and a half never had any problems occasionally the tray jams but that's nothing. If you get the RRoD it's probably through, as many have talked about already, it's probably through pushing the consoles fan to ultimate limits.

I wouldn't worry 360 gamers; the console has the same chance breaking on any other game if you play it long and hard enough.

That's my opinion anyway.

...And that little fit of rage isn't fanboyism? Calm down. It's a game. It isn't something to throw insults about, and frankly I think a reaction like that is pretty sad. Could be indicative of an underlying anger problem, eh?

I got mine for little over a year and then it just crashed randomly, no RROD though. And Microsoft fixed it in a few days, not even a week and it worked perfectly so far (was 4 months ago).

what an unnecessary topic.  thats like saying "during the london marathon, many people might run through estates and get mugged.  so marathon = crime".

Well the point was if MS come up with some sort of plan to handle it seamlessly (the article suggests automatic swap of console) then they can minimise people making huge, loud complaints during the weeks that follow GTA IV's release.

There will be a sudden burst of RRoD simply because so many more consoles will be heavily used than in normal weeks and if they begin to bottleneck in retailers and at the repair desk people will get bloody angry.

If mine RRoDs and I am told it will take three weeks to turn it in because of back log I'll be looking at a PS3 pretty quickly.

I've been waiting too long for this game to wait another extra second.

And to the guy above and Halo 3, there are way more new consoles, a whole bunch of consoles which are older and GTA IV is a bigger game. Plus, you can play it somewhere else. And don't forget not everyone plays online. There were plenty more of 'completely miss the point' moments in your post as well, but I'll stop now.

It amazes me how mentioing RRoD makes you a Ps3 fanboy. It has happened to me twice: I'm not about to pretend I wouldn't love to have the PS3s reliabilty. I think Microsoft shoudl take the articles advice and pre-empt the risk.

well from the previous 360s i've had, three red lights is spontanious and usually happens when i turn the 360 on after extended periods of neglect.

when gears of war came out my 360 was running constantly. i didn't have 3 red lights anytime remotely near that time period - yet it did break a while later.

either way i dont see as much relevence to gta as the thread and feature suggest.

First things first.

This isn't a 'fanboy' article; it is an opinion piece. Stead doesn't make a statement about which console he thinks is better, he is simply taking the comparatively high failure rate of 360s, the reason for the failures, and then using this data to create a hypothetical situation in which MS cannot deliver on its warranties. It's completely hypothetical! It's like saying that unless the PS3 starts releasing more titles or boosts it's multiplayer usability, then it will be a complete failure.

The effective way to disagree with a hypothesis is to attack the data. Does the author's mental extrapolation have any bearing when considering the evidence? If it doesn't, flame away. If it does, write to MS and tell them you are unhappy with the performance of an otherwise fine piece of electronics. Companies place a lot of importance on customer feedback and happines (you're only as good as your last win, the saying goes). What you shouldn't do is dismiss the author as 'ignorant' or a 'fanboy' when he is clearly neither.

I am not quite sure why he felt the need to write this article. Microsoft facing GTA IV disaster? No. Did they face a Halo 3 disaster? No. The game disappointed many but it's not like 90% Xbox 360's died that day. I play my Xbox TONS, and it is F.I.N.E.

It's fear mongering. If you have a 360 and are worried, don't worry. Yes, it COULD RROD, and will happen to some people during them playing GTA IV. But the chances of it happening to you in the next month or two are quite low.

It is a fanboy piece simply because he assumes the console could break while playing it. 8m halo 3's were sold and i don't recall mass rrod issues all over the net. GTA4 will be just the same as any other game in terms of hardware. If its going to break it'l break regardless of the game inside the disc tray. As i said before i've played my 360 for a long long time with loads of games, why would it suddenly break because of GTA4? So it is a fanboy statement to even think about it because the % of it breaking is exactly the same as if you were playing any game.

Maybe Gta will make the console work a bit harder than halo?

Its possible for the game to affect the amount of heat, it does on pc why would the 360 be different.

Well im no engineer but i'd take a guess that rendering the graphics and enviroments of Halo 3 aswell as it's shoot outs would use up more power then rendering a few buildings and NPC's now and then?
