Sure the hardware sucks for reliability but it is nowhere near as bad as he claims. I mean jesus come on now, the 360 had had like what 100 great games that people have played for days on end and not had a problem? If i counted up how much i've played Gears/COD4/Halo3/Forza2/Dead Rising/Oblivion/Bioshock/Fifa etc.. were probably talking a long long time. Why would it suddenly break because i played GTA4? I think in reality it bothers him for the first time in it's excistence a GTA game will sell more copies on a different console to a Sony one. What I don't get is why everyone gives Microsoft crap about their computer products, but then think the 360 is gods gift to the earth Both consoles can play IV so what's the point in arguing over which one does it better? Both consoles have their own strengths and weakness, but when it comes to IV, both versions are going to be exactly the same. 360 may be getting exclusive DLC, but PS3 will eventually get its own DLC as well. Now the thing is, they [gameplayer] are speculating that we will all be sitting in our rooms playing this game for like 24 hours a day. I don't know about all of you guys, but I for one need to sleep considering this game is released during a school week. Another thing I( would like to say is that ive played COD 4 and oblivion on my machine for nay almost a day at times and it runs beautifully the whole time through; I've also bought an extra fan to help keep it cooler during play. (It serves a dual purpose, as it cools and it has many HD Outputs and x4 USB on the back) All in all, I am not worried about this 'possible' hardware failure because it is just mere speculation. They paid $50 million to get two xbox exclusive content packs. They didn't pay $50 million to stop Rockstar from making anything for Sony And remember when GTA used to be a Playstation exclusive? Eventually, all of the GTAIII based games got released on the XBox. I shall see if I get the RROD when I play GTA4, which is unlikely because I'm mainly a PC gamer, and the only games I've played don't even last more then 1-2 hours, though GTA4 will change that for me. I don't think you could be more pessimistic and lopsided in your views. Do you honestly think Halo 3 was less popular than GTA IV will be? You say it is a smaller game, but at the time, the amount of hype was unprecedented. It was the biggest game release until now, yet you dismiss it as if hardly anyone bought it. You also say that Halo 3 wasn't nearly as long. My friend, there are raging gameaholics that play Halo 3 online for more hours a day than they would ever admit. If people spend 12 hours a day on their 360 doing that, what's gonna be the big difference with IV? In the age of console online gaming, a game journalist of all people should know that the length of the single player game is not an accurate way to guage the longevity and frequency of play as it once was. Did Microsoft have a problem? Yes. Do they still have a problem? Yes they do. Are some people going to get the dreaded RRoD by overplaying GTA IV? Yes. However, the in-flow of broken boxes will probably be slightly less than the surge of failures from Halo 3, due to the new Falcon motherboards and their decreased fail rates. This game has been a tremendous system seller, and many who are playing it will be playing on a newer console, as will I. I'm going to sum this up with a question, as well as the clear answer to that question: Is the release of one solitary title suddenly going to cause a catastrophic meltdown of epic proportions and make Microsoft's problem irrevocably worse? Absolutely not. If that were the case, Halo 3 would have wiped out half the 360 population. Soon after, Call Of Duty 4 would have finished off quite a few of the survivors, and the rest would have been murdered by the countless hours of use as the family's media center. 360s will be used no more than they are used currently, but more of the runtime will be spent on a particular game. Well the point was if MS come up with some sort of plan to handle it seamlessly (the article suggests automatic swap of console) then they can minimise people making huge, loud complaints during the weeks that follow GTA IV's release. There will be a sudden burst of RRoD simply because so many more consoles will be heavily used than in normal weeks and if they begin to bottleneck in retailers and at the repair desk people will get bloody angry. If mine RRoDs and I am told it will take three weeks to turn it in because of back log I'll be looking at a PS3 pretty quickly. I've been waiting too long for this game to wait another extra second. And to the guy above and Halo 3, there are way more new consoles, a whole bunch of consoles which are older and GTA IV is a bigger game. Plus, you can play it somewhere else. And don't forget not everyone plays online. There were plenty more of 'completely miss the point' moments in your post as well, but I'll stop now. It amazes me how mentioing RRoD makes you a Ps3 fanboy. It has happened to me twice: I'm not about to pretend I wouldn't love to have the PS3s reliabilty.
