DLC for Non-Live Users?

I currently don't play on live and probably won't (even though I would like to for GTAIV). To setup Live I would have to buy a router, wireless adapter, Live membership, ect... (as well as continually updating my drive's stealth so M$ won't detect the flashed firmware)

So my question is, how would I be able to obtain the DLC for my 360 with out subscribing to Live?

Do you think they could possibly sell a disk of the new contents (much like Halo 2 did with the updates and maps)?

Is there a way to get the content from a friend with Live?

Thanks.

if its single player content, it might be possible to transfer it from your friends hard drive, but other than that not really. If you hooked it up to the internet without subscribing to live, you could still get it

Well, I would suggest taking your Xbox to a friend's house who does have live and setting up a temp account. Download the content (make sure you have the MS points, which will surely be required) and you should be all set.

I would guess that would be made difficult on purpose so no money is lost from people obtaining free content.

I am willing to pay for the content but I'm not sure how I could go about getting it.

If I subscribed to Live on my HDD at my friends house who has Live to download it I suppose that could work but then I would be paying for Live which I wouldn't use as well as payin for the content.

Sorry I don't know much about Live (never used it myself), what exactly are the MS points and how do you obtain them?

1. You can plug your modem straight into the 360 to download the DLC, once its done you can connect the internet back to your compuer

2. You don't need an LIVE GOLD subscription, sign up for FREE and they give you silver, you will be able to download the DLC with this, will probably need to buy some Microsoft points (but you can get that from a game store if you dont want to buy them over LIVE).

3. If you don't have a copied game in the drive (which is what i do), you will be fine, you wont have to update the stealth patch

Hope this helps

Okay, thanks for the info guys, from the sounds of it I'll just go with the free silver account and then get the DLC.

But I'm still not 100% sure what the MS points are, do you buy the DLC with the MS points? If so how much would it cost (estimate) to get enough MS points to download the DLC?

I was under the impression that a Gold account was not nessisary? If I did need a Gold membership can I upgrade to Gold without buying a prepaid card from a store? I have a credit card if you can upgrade via Live.

Look, it's really easy. You could just disconnect your computer from the internet for the amount of time it takes to download the content. And setting up a Live account is no problem. You don't have to pay for the basic Silver account, which you can use to download content from Live.

However, I would strongly recommend against it, because there are so many problems with Live's DRM (the digital rights issue). If your 360 breaks down and you have to get a replacement one, you won't be able to use your content on that new console unless you're always logged in to Live, or you have to go through a really long (up to 3 or 4 months) process with customer support to get it back. This is really the kind of thing that should also come with an option to buy an actual hard copy of the expansions. The odds of that are slim though, as I've only seen two instances where you could buy a hard copy of DLC for the 360 - Shivering Isles for Oblivion, and the expansions for Final Fantasy XI.

If you must use a friend's internet to download, I really see no reason for you not to just haul your 360 into your computer room for an hour or so to get the content. I mean, you'd have to drag your 360 over to your buddy's house and risk something happening to it on the way or you could just take it a few feet and reduce the risk.

Whatever you do, DO NOT download it using anyone's gamertag or 360 except for your own. Otherwise you're going to really screw yourself.

Now that I've read the post above mine again, I realized that what I wrote is pointless since you won't be able to hook your 360 up to Live in any case. Looks like you're not going to be able to get the content unless they release a hard copy.
