danepporambo
Who has been playing the old GTA games like Vice City or San Andreas to get pumped for GTAIV? I actually haven't because I sold my PS2 and some games (including the GTA ones) and used that money to buy an XBOX360. Here are my opinions on the other gta games. GTA 3: A pretty crap game but when first released, it opened up a new type of gameplay. I'm just complaining because I didn't get to play it because I didnt own a ps2 at the time and I played it AFTER vice city. Never completed this game. Vice City: Loved playing every single minute of it as it has an 80's feel. Funny story? I learnt who Michael Jackson was after I heard "Billie Jean" from the in-car radio. Loved that song so much. This is probably the best GTA in my opinion even though it had some minor flaws like the camera. Took about 3 months (like an hour a day) and I played it in a linear way. San Andreas: Pretty good in all aspects except for the focus on gangster themes. Loved the ability to get tank / get fat etc. And the city it was based on. Liked how they copied some good movies like Boyz n da hood. Bought it in 2004, finished it end of 2007. Yes I know thats a heck a lot of time but I took a year break i guess and played like 20 min a day. GTAIV: Everything about it puts a smile to my face. Each day when I come to these forums, i see a new feature (not lately though) that game magazines are talking about. The most surprising feature to me is the ability to call a number in-game and it sending you the artist/songname of a music track. Now thats taking it too far. I'm planning to take my time with this and hope that its a Vice City killer. I'm predicting, im gonna finish it in about 4 months when i take it slow. What are yours? RastaSublime17
San Andreas was the best GTA, If 3 came out when SA did, 3 would be the best. RODNEY KING

Katyclism
San Andreas is my favorite because it has so many options. Mountain biking up a...mountain...and then leaping off and parachuting down was amazing.

cash68
GTAIII was not crap. In fact, I liked it way way way more than Vice City. VC's map was sooooo freaking flat. Sure, there were jumps, but it didn't have the vertical elevation that made it fun to roll down hills, take shortcuts, etc. San andreas was awesome, but I miss the radio of GTAIII, it was SOOOOO sarcastic about everything. The others did this to some extent, but they were more sarcastic of the actual periods they were representing (making fun of the 80s or early 90s), whereas GTAIIIs radio was making fun of CURRENT THINGS, like the SUV phenom. Also, Lazerus or whoever his name was, the talk show guy, was absolutely hilarious. I loved his stuff. They need to bring back talk radio, it was great! I'd rank them like this: GTAIII and SA: Tied. It depends if I just want to goof off. Honestly, I'd rather goof off in GTAIII. The map is tighter and there are less 'dead spaces'. In SA, sometimes when goofing off my vehicle blows up or slides into a lake and I'm in the middle of freaking NOWHERE, and it takes like 4 minutes to walk somewhere to find a vehicle. SA was superior in vehicles, abilities, and customization, but in the sheer joy of just screwing around, GTAIII was great. I'd love it if they'd rerelease III with better cars, bikes, planes, helicopters, and more detail. I love that map, and know it like the back of my hand. VC: Bottom. Absolute bottom. The map blew ass.
E-lasto
I haven't played anything GTA for a long time. I really want to go on a rampage, but I am holding out for IV. It will make it that much better when I finally get it in my hands.
CaptainDude
III was pure Bad-ass (IMO the best GTA Story): remember the Diablo Stallion and the Yardie Lobo? Remember the shotgun?, the Overkiller M16?, the Dog Food missions? and many more things, it puts a smile in my face when i hear the theme song... VC was great, the story is very cool, helicopters are crazy, i love to make a mayhem when i rob a store, the Cuban Hermes is the father of Diablo Stallion, the semi-auto shotgun, the Minigun, i also love to role-play as a pirate and rob botes with civilians in there, that was crazy, pursuit the bote, then jumb quick and kill the dudes in there , great stadium also SA was very gansta for me, but with mah Biker CJ theres no problem, have six stars and drive to the mountains, being pursuited by hydras while i was driving my dodo (i dodge the missiles easy as f*ck), the races, the Remington (the greatest lowrider, apart from the Yardie Lobo) but the cars are too "heavy" in this game, but who cares?, its great no matter what LCS is great also, i love the story, Ray machowski looks hilarious here, maria looks weird in this one, but Cisco does not apperar in this one... VCS is ok, Phil Cassidy is more hilarious, they are jetskies, more role-playin' like pirate, mah bazooka is back, Phil Collins is great and that Gay thing with the red kimono stuff, i have nightmares about that sh*t Can't wait for for IV
zeppelincheetah
i'll go through every single GTA: Grand Theft Auto: pretty good little game, definitely caught my interest back when I was 15 and watched a friend play it on his PC. I got it on the PC in 1999. I never took the missions seriously and just caused havok, trying to see how many points i could get. In 2002 I think it was I bought the GTA: Collector's Edition for the PSX and actually set about beating GTA. It was really hard and for San Andreas I think I got stuck at a mission and blew stuff up and sold cars in order to get to Vice City (you need a certain number of points to get to the next city) but I did eventually beat the game. I haven't gone back to it lately because I don't have my PS2 to play it on and my old piece of sh*t laptop couldn't handle it. Grand Theft Auto Mission Pack #1: London 1969: I finally played this when I got the Collector's edition in 2002. It was fairly easy and a bit disorienting driving on the wrong side of the road. I thought it was a neat little expansion. Grand Theft Auto Mission Pack #2: London 1961: I finally got London 1969 for the PC in 2006, which is required to play 1961. What a waste, this game is so f*cking hard it's not even worth the effort. GTA2: this was the second GTA game I played, I got it for christmas with GTA1 in 1999 but my parent's PC couldn't handle it quite as well as the original GTA. Like the original GTA I just messed around and didn't take the missions seriously. I thought the improved graphics were awesome and I liked the weird psuedo-futuristic style. In 2002 with the collector's edition I finally got around to beating it and it was very very difficult but very fun at the same time. The respect-o-meter system is great! Grand Theft Auto III: I strongly disagree with the topic creator on this one. This is my second favorite game of all time (behind Super Mario World). It's just perfect. It blew me away when I first played it and I still go back and play it today because something about it was lost in the transition to Vice City and San Andreas. I still love to fly the dodo or go off the unique stunts or go on killing sprees with flamethrowers and moltov cocktails and using the adrenaline pills. The story is great too. I played through the story, the first time I did that in a GTA game and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I proceeded to get 100% as well. I went back to it only about a week ago and re-beat it. Grand Theft Auto Vice City: This game was a disappointment in many ways. Vice City was for the most part an extremely boring city compared to Liberty City, the protagonist talked and the game was set in the 80's (yuck). But once I listened to the radio a bit longer and heard some of the songs my parents listened to when I was young (mainly the songs that are on Emotion FM,) I began to appreciate the 80's setting more. I beat it and got 100% and enjoyed the fact that I got something with 100% more than bragging rights. The best part of Vice City hands down is the asset missions. I really felt like I, as Tommy Vercetti, was making an impact on the city by taking over these businesses and doing missions based off of them. This game, unlike III, I almost never play again. I'm however playing it lately to re-beat it in anticipation of IV. I plan to beat San Andreas too once I beat this. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas: West Coast for the f*cking win. This game really delivered, much more than Vice City did... Set in the 90's (my time) in the West (where I lived for a time when I was a kid) was extremely appealing for me. After having only V-Rock in Vice City Radio X and K-DST finally quenched my thirst for good rock music. The story was a little bit too epic but had some excellent characters along the way like the Truth, Wuzimu and Mike Toreno. Needless to say I beat it and got 100%. I come back to this game a lot because it's the most fun, you can do pretty much anything in this game. This is my second favorite GTA, after III. Grand Theft Auto Advance: Eh. I got this game because i'm a hardcore GTA fan that has to have every new title. It was an ok game but going back to top down after having 3d isn't the same. I never quite beat it, I got stuck at the last or second to the last mission. Since it's top down it's really hard to see where you're going and map out where to go. The problem is it uses GTA III's map which is difficult enough to navigate in 3d much less 2d... It has some ties to GTA III which is nice though, like 8-ball and Asuka are bosses in the game for instance. Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories: I really liked this game, it brought back memories of playing GTA III for the first time and I loved playing a new story in my favorite GTA town. This game is probably tied with Vice City as my third favorite GTA. I play this every now and then, on my PSP. I am meaning to get a PS2 version of it someday. Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories: Like Vice City before it this was a disappointment, but this was much much much worse of a disappointment than Vice City was. The game's practically a joke with characters that suck and are uninteresting and a story that's bland and generic. The game's also a glitchfest nightmare. Empire building is a HORRIBLE dissapointment. I guess I had my hopes too high for it. I expected it to be as good as Vice City's asset missions but it's a lame copy and paste job over and over again all over the city. There are two (2) new cars in the game. TWO!! Yes there are new flying vehicles and jet skis but come on... only 2 new road vehicles? The game's not all bad though. The best part is the fighting system, you can perform moves like breaking people's necks which is neat. And driving in the jet ski is really fun. But other than that... blah I had to force myself through this game and even more so to get 100%
needforspeed01
My favorite out of them all would be the original gta vice city..... they captured the essence of the 80's so well, also the whole miami scene is so perfect to base the map on... the whole "miami vice coked up" feel of it just was to cool, I always loved watching re-runs of miami vice so when I played this game I had so much more appreciation.....I hope there would be a re-make of vice city on ps3 in the next following years, that would make me a bit hopeful, or even more refreshing maybe start off in like cuba then work your way to vice city-> another possible storyline idea if there was a vice city remake. CaptainDude
Lulz i forget the first GTAs... GTA: I played that time ago in 2003 (later from VC i remember, i was boring) and its fun for an arcade game, i have lulz for a time with that. GTA2: Never played, but 4 days ago i rip it, its very good, i like it, Claude is equally bad-ass than himself in III, love to kill peds with mah zaibatsu car and the romero. They are both great games, but you only took them seriously if you are a Hardcore GTA fan IMO. Roflez... whats that?... OMG!!!!!! NNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
