GOURANGA123
Ok ive played liberty city so many times.... Is this liberty city modelled of the existing template they already have for Liberty City? I've played it on the PC version i've played it on the PSP version... to be honest ive always found it one of the boringest cities that i've played in GTA. Hopefully its got some originality in it... im kin of sick of the re-runs and repetitiveness that GTA seem to put out. Other than that pretty much best game made still lol. GTA 1 FTW GOURANGA! Niall_S
It's modeled on New York. The previous Liberty City was just Rockstars first attempt at a 3D city. So they just made it up.
Johnny Burbank
Houser pretty much says that they went for NYC b/c of cost/benefit reasons. The game at this level of detail was going to take them years, so they figured they would need to focus on something they all knew very well and wouldn't have to spend a fortune figuring out and visiting. I have always said GTA4 is really the springboard for the next title in the series. Sure, GTA4 is going to be great in its own right, but at this level of computing power, the main thing was getting a sound foundation to work with. So now they have the RAGE and Euphoria systems in place, two new systems, and from this point on it's about expanding maps, trying new things, etc. I bet the DLC will give us some idea on how they will approach the next game. CaptainDude
Its Re-modeled, totally, dont worry about it BORINGEST FTW GOURANGA!
Algonquin Assassin
I always thought the reason they chose LC again is R* didn't feel they done NYC justice in the first 3D GTA (GTA III), and decided to go back to it. Plus NYC is a very popular backdrop for crime based games/movies.

K^2
It's modeled on New York. The previous Liberty City was just Rockstars first attempt at a 3D city. So they just made it up. All of the previous versions of Liberty City were also based on New York City. That includes Liberty City from original GTA. Anyone who's been to NYC would recognize many places there. And to answer the OPs question, by my count, this is the 5th time they use Liberty City. That is, if you don't count that little cameo in SA. Ph3L1z14n0
All of the previous versions of Liberty City were also based on New York City. Apparently the first liverty city was just an "east-coastish" city, from the recent interview with Houser.

K^2
GTA GTA III Liberty City Stories GTA IV Sorry, can't find one for GTA Advance, but it is very similar to the one in GTA III. As you can see, they all have similarities, but GTA IV is by far the most detailed. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns. K^2
Retard, they have never done New york. gta3 LC is not new york Right. And Central Park, Flat Iron Building, Liberty International Airport, etc. are just big coincidences. LC was always NYC. Open Google Earth. Find NYC. Compare. If anything, original GTA's LC looks more like NYC than any of the rest. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns. If anything, original GTA's LC looks more like NYC than any of the rest. The first version of LC was a lil bit similar to NYC, but it was mostly just a generic East Coast-type city. Version 2 of LC is a pretty accurate version of NYC.
GOURANGA123
For a crime game what is better than a grungy east-coast city? Answer: An original newly designed grungy east coast city. LoL I love the angry responses, im glad we have a good eager audience for GTA 4. Sorry about my english i come from a land where we mince the english language.. kinda like america Anyhow i was saying that Liberty City i found over played, over used and yes BORING. (in the GTA series it pops up a few times) Hence the reason i asked Is this liberty city modelled of the existing template they already have for Liberty City? The answer appears to be no.. Thats a good sign.. its just taht when i looked at the GTA4 side on image of the city i could see the area down near the bottom where 8 ball's car bombs is located... Or what i believed to be the area.. Anyhow i've got my special Edition Pre-order im sure its gonna be great. You can put the knives away now guys cheers.
