TenEightyOne
I suffer from the same problem some evenings, then another evening will go by with no problems. In the current climate it seems quite likely that this is an XBL problem rather than a problem on your side. There are, in effect, three parts to your connection. 1) The connection between your XBox and the outside line. 2) The connection between your modem and your service provider 3) The connection between your service provider and XBL As I said, the problem is most likely with (3). It may sort itself out as Microsoft have been rolling out server-side upgrades for the last few weeks (another one today). It would help if you DID check your own equipment, though. There are a couple of things that I would try; a) Connect your XBox directly to your hub (you may need to use Console > Network Settings > Test XBL connection to re-establish the connection). If you enjoy drop free gaming then the problem is (1). Stay wired. If this doesn't work, try wiring directly into your MODEM rather than your hub/router. Drop free? Change your hub, and stay wired. b) Open the dashboard of your modem using a PC (the IP address is USUALLY 192.168.0.1) When XBL drops check the connection status of your broadband line straight away. If you're having problems with (2) you may see something here that suggests that your connection speed is slow / lost. Check with your ISP to see if they've logged any problems on your line/exchange. I'm not very familiar with the LinkSys equipment you describe, so I can't be much more helpful with the setup of that, I'm afraid. What I DO know is that many people advise against connecting an XBox wirelessly. Many modern wireless hubs check the network speed from time to time, this can cause a pause in service. It doesn't take much of a service pause for XBL to kick you off. Hope this helps...
