Could it be a problem with the latest System Firmware?

Buy a 2.5 sata laptop HD, a 120gig is pretty cheap, maybe $80 at newegg.com or go to the local electronics store and install the new HD to make sure thats the problem. Sounds like the HD failed. SWEETSAPRIK
1. I have no warrenty. Did you buy it off the back of a truck? Unless you broke the seal, otherwise voided the warranty, or the warranty has expired you should have one. Provided you bought it in the last year and have a receipt, call Sony, the number is in the manual. They'll tell you to try a few things, and they'll ask a few questions. I suggest that when they ask, you tell them you didn't have it plugged into a surge protector, and were using the cables that came in the box, even if you weren't. Within a few days you'll get a box, you put everything that came with it in the box (there'll be a sheet of paper listing everything you should put in), then you mail the box and sometime between one to three weeks later you'll get it back. They get to decide if they're going to fix it, or send you another unit instead. I'm pretty sure you can do the same thing even if you bought it more than a year ago, or if you used "unofficial/unlicensed peripherals/cables", the only difference would be that you'd then have to pay for the repairs, as your warranty would have expired, or you would have voided it. poopskin
Stupid xbox fanboyeveryone knows ps3s dont fail or get broken Sledgehammer a 360 then try to turn it on. Sledgehammer a PS3 then try to turn it on. Sledgehammer a Atari 2600 (please don't, actually), then try to turn it on. I guarantee you the results will be 100.1% the same. TenEightyOne
Fanboy arguments aside, the HDDs for PCS, Macs, PS3s and XBoxes work in pretty much the same way - it's the processor-side control. Regardless of the system I'm afraid the symptoms you describe strongly suggest a complete HD failure. If it's under warranty you're going to have to contact the Warranty Support line. If not, you'll have to replace it yourself. I have never even looked at a PS3 up close, so I'm not sure if the HDD is portable. If so, it's an easy fix. If not, the way you get it repaired depends on if you're brave enough to do it yourself
