B0NTA
I've noticed that GTA 4 hasn't been that popular with the general public like most GTA's were (IMO). Of course it is extremely popular to the hardcore gamers right now, but I recently was talking about it with some of my friends about GTA 4 and they were like, "What? I didn't even hear about it! Whens it coming out?". I guess its because R* hasn't really done much with advertising compared to the other GTA's...

GTAIV9409
Rockstar doesn't need to waste their money on advertising. Word of mouth is all that's needed.
nlitement
It seems as though GTA IV is like the most underrated game series ever. It's all about Halo and your f*cking Final Fantasies and MGSs. Then FINALLY someone discusses GTA when OOOH it's "hip" to do it. Btw. browse any magazine's/gaming forum and you'll see 0 GTA threads.

B0NTA
I know for a fact that everysingle one of my friends has played or atleast herd of the GTA series. It just stinks how I had to send a message to everybody on my Xbox Live friends list and tell them the launch date and some of the details of the game. I know for many of my friends that I am the only reason they herd of GTA IV right now...
mac915
You can't expect everyone to be an avid fan of something. A lot of the people who buy games are people who see the game, whether its because of its brand name, popular opinion, whatever, and buy then it knowing next to nothing about it. R* is doing just fine with their advertising, they're just not doing it in a whore-like fashion *cough*Halo 3*cough*. They release a commercial and do some viral marketing and leave it at that. TOMdeBOM
people don't know when it's releasing, but once they see the game in the store ... they'll probably buy it anyway.

GTAIV9409
If what you're saying is true then why is the media saying it's going to be the highest selling video game ever raking in possibly over $400 million?
kingofnexus
R* really need to do something. That English xbox 360 advert was a poor attempt at conveying what GTA IV actually is. If you didn't know what the game is about, that advert sure didn't explain anything. Plus I havent seen that advert on TV, if it's supposed to be out yet that is. Other games advertise on gaming webistes, with flash based advertisements, weeks before they are released. I have not seen 1 GTA flash advertisement yet. glosoli
Most of the general public don't care about computer games at all. Stop being self centred, just because its massive to you doesn't mean everyone else cares.
MysteryGamer
You can't expect everyone to be so excited even obsessed with this game as you and I are (alright I will speak for myself here). Looking at the pre-orders here in Great Britain at least the game is popular as hell selling out just about everywhere now except for the Special Editions but even those are selling out in some places now. Also playing videogames might damage some people's reputation of being "cool" who gives a crap about being cool? That line of thinking breeds from insecurity in my opinion. I don't think those who are into videogames in the first place is all that high either.

Tsuroki
If you read the Dan Houser interview, you'd realize that Rockstar really doesn't like to go all-out for marketing. They never have, really. They'll toss some commercials on and that's about it... they don't pull the same massive stunts that Bungie does/did with Halo.

B0NTA
Ok. Settle down. I was just expecting a little more over all knowledge about its release...It might be an entirely different case with you guys. I was just stating my opinion. Isn't that what forums or for? Johnny Burbank
There have been like 4 million pre-orders? How can anyone say that the awareness of the game/release is low?
