Em and I tried this a long time ago. It didn't work out then and I truly doubt it will work. As stated, it's a wonderful idea and looks great it theory, but when placed into action, simply doesn't work. There are many reasons why, but I'd prefer not to state all the reasons that have already been repeated. Numerous times.

Well, everyone remember the thank-you list? And that was just a minor list. Imagine a full scale hall of fame. Disastrous.

Hah, well the whole reason the thank-you list was f*cked up was because of LKG. He's not an issue anymore, thank god.

Is there really anything that that kid did not f*ck up? And how did it ever become alright to use a 'that' right after a 'that'...I have never really understood that.

Anyways, a Hall of Fame could work, but maybe by a panel who gave points. Then after the first round of stories the panel could set up a cut of for works to get into the Hall. Just like sport Hall of Fames. sarcasm.gif

That could work. Instead of submitting pieces to Em, we could all just nominate stories here. Then we cut the list down and vote, etc. It could be an annual thing. Only catch is that I think the writer should not be able to nominate his own pieces, that way we don't get a submission for every piece posted in WD.

I sent a PM to Eminence with my story in it, but i guess things won't be working out the way they were supposed to. I'm guessing it's due to the limited amount of people in the writers discussion, and the amount of stories you would have to read.

@Vercetti - that could work, but i nominated my own piece so that's a problem for me biggrin.gif . Nah, it's ok. I think the people who would choose the nominees should stroll along the writers discussion and pick out the ones they like best instead of people submitting, that way you won't have as much stress in a way.

Well I don't necessarily see anything wrong with someone nominating their own story, I do see something wrong with someone voting on their own story. Anyways, the panel could be voted on or just formed by the most seasoned and regular members or something. The voting could be something of a ten point scale for various factors in the story: aka dialog, characters, plot, originality, descriptions, etc. That would be the most fair way in my opinion, though my opinion carries the weight of sand, which could vary.

In addition, I also submitted my story on Richard Cuore.

^ I second that nomination, its an amazing story.

Really amazing.

I'd also like to nominate two more, GTA: San Fierro Stories by Radicell and also Ghost by Masterkraft.

The reason I've been struggling to put anything up thus far is because I can't seem to really find anything truly deserving of going up. I mean, if the general consensus is that something like San Fierro Stories (no offence intended in any way to that piece, it's just my example of a script) belongs in a hall of fame, then no, the system doesn't work. It's all a matter of interpretation, yes, and some people's standards are higher than others, yes, but there's no point in putting lots of pieces up when it'll just end up a slightly trimmed down version of the library.

Struff Bunstridge

Perhaps have categories for the hall of fame then?

I mean, most of the stories here can be broadly put into categories of scripts, fanfics, horror, drama, Mafia, and cop thrillers. That's by no means a definitive list, but it goes some way towards classification. If it's done, say, on a bimonthly or quarterly basis, categories could be defined and the best example of each within that time period could be honoured in the HoF. These could be voted for by members or decided by a panel, whichever would work best.

Obviously, under this system, if only one story within a category is posted within a given time period, it'll earn a place no matter how much it sucks, so it'll need ironing out...

Right when I thought no one was listening to me. This is my point exactly. If it is too small, people will complain. No doubt in my mind. If it's too big, we may as well, as you said, trim down the library. Either way, the Hall of Fame will see trends and influences as people come and go. That's the other reason I don't like it. Phusion, Carbine, and Struff (for example) are good members, but I know for a fact they'd have no influence on this 6 months ago, because they were not active in the Writer's Discussion 6 months ago. Apart from that, if you only plan on posting completed pieces that shimmies it down to about Tony's stories, Vercetti's stories, and Oxi's stories. There's not much there.

This is why we should all vote, because basically it's all going down to your opinion

I think people just need to realize the difference between a popular story and a well-written story.

As for the influence of members 6 months ago thing, this could be solved if the hall was updated annually.

I say divide it into three categories:

Scripts

Narratives

Shorts/Poems

That covers the whole spectrum and would be easy to categorize, with only being three tables. But this would really need to work done for it to actually work right. Maybe either every year there's an update, or six months.

Or we could get even a little bit more crazy!

Fan-Fics

Scripts

Poems/Songs

Originals

CRAZY ENOUGH?!

I do think so, we'll be covering the whole area of WD, we can have judges for each category.

Eg.

Fan-fics - Cuban

Scripts - Tommy

Poems - Saltine

Originals - Vercetti

This way no ones work can be ignored and no one can complain about how their story was turned away. The only thing is that the fan-fics will be a bitch to judge.

Nah, no judges. I think all nominations should be decided on votes, with Eminence giving the final word on everything.

Eminence...final word...everything.

Whoa, wait. Just because he made the topic, his opinion is so far above ours that if the majority of us don't find the story that good, if he says its good, its good? I say we run a democracy and let everyone decide and majority rules, not that whole "Eminence decides it", because he does have bias.

I think it's fairly safe to say that what Eminence thinks is good is usually good. Obviously if the majority of us think something should be in the library and he doesn't, we could come to some sort of agreement. For example, anyone can nominate a piece (that isn't there own.) After a certain date, nominations are no longer accepted and we move on to the actual judging of pieces. Eminence picks out around twenty to thirty pieces per category (scripts, narratives, shorts/poems), and then we (the general writing community), decide what stays and what goes from there. We could have something like ten pieces total per category, and it could be done every six months or so.

You are right, I am biased. My bias is that good writing is favoured, and poor writing isn't.

No, your bias is narrative. I've seen you always saying that whole schpeal about how you don't like scripts, and how you prefer narratives. How are we suppose to believe that you will grade everything on the same scale, when you dislike scripts, and, like you have said, don't even read them?

You aren't. It's up to you what you believe.

See, scripts won't be pitted against narratives, so there's no bias whatsoever. I'll be looking at scripts and pitting them up against each other, will I not? Where's the bias in that?

Mm... I don't think this is going to work out well unless everyone gets involved and we have a vote for stories.
