Niall_S
Hey, not sure if this is right place to post this or not, so if it's not, don't flame me please. Anyways, i was wondering if there was a way of getting a colour photo and making only a selected area Black and White, if so, can anyone help me on how to do this? Step by Step guide would be appreciated. Thanks
cabz0r
hope this helps, to select the area that you want to be in black and white you will have to use the lasso tool located on the tools menu just below the rectangular marquee tool (2nd option from the top left of the tools menu) file | edit | image | layer | windows <<< these are the drop down menus (obviously) select window menu > tools (this will cause the tools palette to appear if it does not have a tick next to it already - if "tools" has a tick next to it already just leave it and dont click on anything) once you have found the tools pane - select the lasso tool and then select the area you want to be black and white on the image. once the area is selected go to the image menu > adjustments > desaturate and this will turn whatever you have selected to black and white however if this is not the type of black and white you are looking for, try the following: goto "layer menu > new adjustment layer > threshold" - click ok - then move the slider bar to suit your needs. if you dont understand anything, let me know and ill try and clarify Edited April 16, 2008 by cabz0r
Deuce Deuce
Hey, not sure if this is right place to post this or not, so if it's not, don't flame me please. We have a better place for graphics in general to ask things like this. Requests & Tutorials is solely for just that; requesting and writing tutorials. OT: Basically what cabz0r said, although there are a few different ways of doing it. Personally, I go about it by duplicating the original image and desaturating the first layer (bottom), so it leaves you with the original (coloured) image on-top and the 'black and white' image below that. Then you simply select whichever part of the image you want 'black and white' (using the polygonal lasso tool) and erase that. The colour showing through is part of the original image underneath it (to point out the obvious).
