Im still a little foggy after microsoft's 3 year warranty extention for the xbox 360. My questions is - does this new warranty only cover people who have had xbox 360 repairs? Or does this cover every xbox360 owner regardless of past hardware issues?

It covers all who have the "Red Ring of Death" and have not had their Xbox opened by unauthorized personnel.

Anyone who "currently" has the RRoD.

right so in other words, anyone who gets the rrod will get their xbox fixed for free up untill november 2008?

Up until they have owned their console for over three years. e.g You bought the console in January '06, the warranty covers any RRoD you have until January '09.

Oh and every time they repair your console the 3 years is reset from the date you received your console back. All other problems only carry a 1 year warranty, and if they repair your console that 1 year warranty is reset as well.

By reset, you mean the warranty starts from the date you get back the console for another year? That sounds generous but are you sure that's true?

Because it sounds like an unlimited warranty to me, lol.

i dont think they continually extend it for 3 years after rrod. but... someone tell me otherwise if i am wrong, but wouldn't it be a good idea to purposely overheat the console causing rrod right before the warranty becomes expired? because i think if it becomes too badly damaged, they completely replace your xbox360. would the repair guys be able to tell that it was diliberatly overheated?

Yes, it says so right in the sheet of paper you receive when you get your 360 back.

To quote it:

XBOX 360

RE: REPLACEMENT OF YOUR XBOX CONSOLE.

Dear Xbox Customer.

So that you can get back to playing and enjoying your Xbox quicker, we have replaced your Xbox console with a replacement unit.

The replacement unit has a different serial number than your old unit.

We will handle these administrative functions for you.

1.- We will perform the warranty registration of the replacement console for you. If you had already registered your old unit, we will cancel the old registration.

2.- If you purchased from a Microsoft Extended Service Contract, we will establish a new contract to cover the replacement unit and cancel the Microsoft Extended Service Contract for the old unit.

If you had purchased an extended service contract through your selling dealer, you should notify the service contract carrier of the serial number change.

Please accept out apologies for the inconvenience you have experienced by having to send your Xbox 360 in for repair.

It is our goal to provide you with the best gaming and entertainment experience possible, and hope to regain your trust, satisfaction and loyalty.

Please accept this complimentary one month Xbox Live membership card to as a gesture of our appreciation of you.

Thank you for your continued support of Microsoft products and services.

Sincerely,

Xbox Customer Service

I don't know if the warranty is reset if they just repair your console, but my guess is yes.
