Feldar
Nice theory mate. Anyways,i would buy GTA IV even if it had 1/10 rating. Ive got all the other GTAs so i must have this one too So i dont really care if the ratings are low in gtas situation,if they are high,im happy, but if they are low,i dont care. Usually 10/10 means no fauls. But in this situation we have to look what ratings other games have had. For example Cod4 had high rating and maybe GTA IV is some much better so they had to give it 10/10 because there was no 11/12 or 12/13.
lomas661
i think the 10/10 was given because they would rate it over 9.5 if the score was in decimal places. 9.5 or over means they have to round up to

safcftm33
Your going too far into this its 10/10 because it simply is an amazing game, and it will get 10/10 in every magazine. How do you know? If one magazine/website does not give it 10/10 or 100% i will aplogize to you.

Get ready then, there's always one place that's willing to give games like Gears, MGS, GTA something shoddy like 50%. Nothing is 10/10 worthy, 9.9 perhaps. This game will not be perfect. Depends if you consider 10/10 to stand for "perfect". To me, 10/10 simply means "must have", or "classic"... which I think is the way most of these websites/magazines look at it. Tequila Sunset
It was 10/10 in the UK version of OXM Magazine!! They've only given 10/10 to 3 other games! Oblivion, PGR 4. and Bioshock.

Scaryow
Nothing is 10/10 worthy, 9.9 perhaps. This game will not be perfect. yeah maybe they'll lose 0.1 points because the multiplayer servers get slow when it gets too crowded (is that possible? ) if you want to, you can always find a downside, but in my eyes GTA IV deserves a perfect
WastedEngland
I see what your saying and it makes sense in the profit view of things. I think reviewers would give GTA IV a 10/10 score because this is more than just another GTA release. This is GTA's first next gen outing, this is as big as when GTA 3 came out on PS2 way back when, GTA 3 was a benchmark in the GTA series and games in general just as IV will potentionally be this time around. GTA IV is the next generation of Grand Theft Auto so it will be this much better than say Vice City coming out after GTA 3 because Vice City and San Andreas were not hugely different from eachover (in the way GTA 3 was different from GTA2 and GTA IV will be different from San Andreas) I think your theory is looking at it this way because these big names are making money and sales the top priority in everything, it also could be that since III there have been many GTA clones and the overall quality of games has increased, for IV to be 10/10 it's going to have to fill a tall order. Im pretty sure it has
VASPAS803
Maybe OXM staged the 9/11 attacks and they are trying to get the heat off them by giving it a 10/10....or it's because its a good game.
doa kappatango
All of the other "Previews", from many different, stand-alone sources have been singing the praises of the game. I never really Trust OXM as like the op said, there is a vested interest. I usually look online at the likes of IGN, CVG and Gametrailers. These sites usually give an accurate appraisal, and the MP mutterings from these sites are enough for me. All that said, I reckon every user on this forum will by GTA despite what ANY review says - we are in for the series and History tells me this game is gonna be awesome
V1ce C1ty
Well not all magazines use a clear percentage like 97% or 9.7/10. Cause alot of "official" magazines have given games like timesplitters, gran turismo etc 10/10... Doesn't mean its perfect its just rounded up to the nearest full number... lomas661
haha it would be somewhat funny in a way if a magazine or website gave the game 9.9 because the pedestrian who is window cleaning doesn't use the proper technique
Swiechu
PGR4 didn't deserve a 10, the paid OXM, that is sure, it's a 8 game. Halo is a 7 game, but noone would rate it 7 or even 8 cos everyone would think it's ridiculous. IV is an awesome game, for like 9.8, but I don't think it would get a perfect 10 with not-so-great graphics, just look at previous installments of series. But then, if BioShock scored 10, and it's a great game, but media gave it about 9.7, so why wouldn't IV score a 10 in OXM?
jiggamanjoe
I'd be surprised if what the OP says wasn't atleast partially true. The people saying its cause the game is going to amazing, it most likely will but theres a chance it wont be. You know when people need to take their heads of R*s ass when they act overly hostile to someone who simply suggest that there might have been other factors that resulted in the game being rated a 10. Losion
This topics is about your thoughts on the reasoning behind why Official Xbox Magazine voted GTA IV 10/10. Yes you might say its an amazing game thats why, but think about it more deeply. I am certain GTA does deserve a high rating but one could consider an alternate reasoning why '10/10' was given. Feel free to share your theory or comment. Theory 'I believe' meaning it might not be accurate, that OXM gave GTA IV 10/10 as they have a vested intrest in GTA. Lets first examine the downloadable content only for Xbox users. Now Microsoft in effect gave Rockstar a blank check for this. If OXM were to give GTA a bad rating then it would put Xbox users off the game and therefore, Microsoft would make less of a profit from the downloads. It is not like your standard game where Microsoft have no influence and do not care about publishers sales, remember in this case Microsoft get a chunk of the cake, and an even larger slice if more people buy GTA 'potentially'. Also remember that if they did not give it '10/10' and gave it say '9/10' their competitors Sony may well rate the game higher i.e. '10/10'. Now remember there is always going to be huge debates about what platform GTA IV will, and is better on. If Sony rate it higher then people maybe misleaded and consider GTA IV to be better on the PS3- which it may well be who knows.... Anyway Microsoft have secured the maximum rating, and hopefully a wide audience for the game to try to outdo its competition. Can anybody justify my theory, or provide their own or comment on the above? Thanks I see your point!, but ITS NOT "HOUR OF VICTORY" ---> SEE HERE: http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/hou...=result;score;1 TELL ME SOME THINGS, NOT TO BUY THIS GAME ????? AWFUL GRAPHICS ??? JOKA22
Nothing is 10/10 worthy, 9.9 perhaps. This game will not be perfect. In oxm the 10/10 is not perfect. In the magazine it states the ratings and that the highest is 11.That is given to the "unicorn" of gaming. Therefore no game will ever get an 11,unless its perfect.. LemKo
This review is really strange... It has been made before the game comes out, and if I remember good to test a R* journalists have to wait till it come in stores. The review was so... "basic", it's GTA IV, the most hyped game of the year and they made a little review with not much new informations. We learned more in a early preview than in that test. Jimex
Not much of a theory, hasn't it occured to you that all games which are key to a consoles success are rated higher in both the OXM and OPM, even if there not 10/10 or 9/10 worthy? I never trust these mags are they are going to be biased whatever you say, they are funded by Microsoft/Sony.
JOKA22
They say no game will ever get an 11 as an 11 is perfect, it is (in their words) "The Unicorn". Regardless of its purpose, it still means that a score of 10 isn't perfect, just that the game is excellent, top quality material, a "must buy". In many respects people may see this as "perfect" still, since some people consider 10 as a close to perfect as you can possibly get in any other magazine (in the same way that the recurring decimal 0.999 is, in fact, equal to 1). However, the criteria for an 11 is the same as what 10 would be, if 10 were the highest, so *officially* 10 isn't a perfect score in OXM.
lagge92
Since OXM use 0-10 and not like gamespot, IGN and Gametrailers who use 0,0-10,0 maybe they thought it was closer to a 10 then to a 9. For example, this game might get a 9,8 from gametrailers, if the same person did the review for OXM he would probalby give it a 10 since 9,8 is closer to 10 then 9. Or am I totally wrong here? :S
