MAGHALBU
Hi, everybody!!! I have some strange problem. When I start vc after opening the laptop from stand-by mode, it won't run long. There's a strange sound and comp stops. Then I have to restart the laptop. And only then it's possible to play long. But sometimes after stand-by mode it can hold on very long. Maybe hours. My specs are: 1.86ghz, 192 mb ram. XP, version 2002. What can u say about this all? Maybe ram is too less. But NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND2 plays normally. It's even more than VC. Vinnie
The RAM Is a bit low even though it meets the minimum requirements and if you've had loads of stuff running before going into standby mode then you will experience problems when resuming, also I've found that resuming from standby can cause memory management mess ups (in my experience's) so for now I'd just play after rebooting or getting more memory. MAGHALBU
Ah, I thought so. But I rarely leave a opened programm after entering VC. Even sometimes it doesn't hold even if i've restarted the laptop. The worst thing is to play on laptop. Especially on mine. With such low memory. I've asked my friend how much can coast a change of a RAM, she said that minimum 20,000 armenian drams. It's not so much, but also not less money. It's a usual pention for a lonely living grandma. The biggest my dream now to have a big powerfull PC, stationary. But laptops are good for transporting from one place to another. But they ain't for playing. I tell u from my own experience. radioman
It's mostly your RAM is too low, but your anti-virus/firewall could also be preventing it from running normally. I had a similar problem with 256mb RAM, and once I upgraded my RAM, all GTA's run fine now-even after coming out of stand by. Memory upgrades now a days, are around $20 to $30 depending on how much you need (ie. 512MB to 2GB). Hope this helps. If you don't want to upgrade Ram, try and turn off anti-virus/firewall before starting game and see if that helps any.
MAGHALBU
Wow, thanx man, I'll try. I'll try to upgrade the RAM. I opened the WIN FIREWALL, & it said that "turning off this setting may take this computer more vulnerable to viruses & intruders". This was written under that setting. So should I do that anyway? Vinnie
I wouldn't ever recommend turning off the Firewall and the Windows Firewall isn't very resource hungry at all anyway. I think the service still runs anyway after it's been turned off through Security Centre.

What I meant by turning off the anti-virus/firewall was just to turn it off while you're on the game and when you exit back to the desktop turn it back on again because the firewall might be trying to block access to the game when you come out of standby mode. This is recommended in the trouble shooting tips over here. It says "End all non-essential processes including firewall and window blinds-(which I take to mean ant-virus program)." It helps on my XP Desktop to temprarily disable firewall before starting a game. Hope this helps.

On=topic: Maybe it's the type of game, like your laptop can play NFS only, or the other way around, maybe adding a little more Ram will help?
