Logitech G25, it works, but...

Ever thought of driving through your favourite virtual city with a steering wheel and 3 pedals?

Logitech G25

It's actually possible, but it generates some problems too.

First I have to say: it's hard, but after about 20 minutes I got the feel of how the game reacts on the steer and it's unbelievable. With the camera on the bumper you really feel the difference between every single car's handling. The trucking missions are fantastic, getting away from the police seems easier and when you're not in a hurry you can really relax, having one or two hands free sometimes.

The reoson for me to try is that I smoke a certain type of dried plants (no illegal drugs, please don't use illegal drugs, CJ doesn't), which I have to crumble up and then roll into a cigarette. I need two hands to do this so I have to pause my game or not smoke, both of which are highly undesireable to I.

Now the facts:

By default, the controls are almost unusable. The game is designed for 2 joystick with both 2 axes. The accelerator and brake on the G25 are acting like the x and y axes of the right joystick, which on controls the camera. On a normal game pad, the joystick is centered, but the pedals of the G25 are obviously all the way up, causing the camera to spin around and turn upward.

This is no problem because the Logitech driver application let's you assign keyboard keys to your controls. So now the accelerator and brake don't send their signal straight to the game. When I press the accelerator, the driver 'presses' the 'w' key, which I can use in the in-game control setting for accelerate (vehicle) and forward (foot)

On Foot:

Walking: You can walk in a straight line by just pressing one foot, which is very comfortable, however to change direction you'll have to use the steer which is bit weird but the fact that you can do it one handed makes up for that quickly. The steer has to thumb-buttons and to finger paddles which I use for changing weapons, aiming and shooting.

Jumping: To jump I use the clutch, which is actually pretty cool.

Shooting: Gunfights are very hard, because forward and left/right are usually on the same joystick allowing you to direct CJ very precisely, but now you have to find a balance between paddle and steer, which I estimate on about 4 hours of practice to get good at.

In Vehicle:

If there is a driving simulator, now it's GTA. (Except for Interstate '76 maybe, but it's too old and too hard. trying a mission 50 times before getting a clue about what to do...)

Driving: Well, it's actually like driving, with a steer and paddle's, and because all cars have automatic gearboxes, you can use the seperate clutch as a handbrake.

Shooting: Great!

Flying: I haven't managed to properly control any aircraft so far, which sucks. (On my Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2, I make 100% at all the flight school missions easy, so I can fly, that ain't it)

Main problem is that when you connect multiple controls, the game only detects one, preventing you to switch controller when you change vehicle. I could use a gamepad for on foot, a steering wheel for on the road and a flight joystick for in the air. If anyone can fix this problem, GTA will be the all-time vehicle simulator, which it already is, so whatever.

I may note that I completed 100% five times and was looking for a new challenge, until the 29th, when the whole PC will become an unused heap of expensive alloys in the corner of my room for at least 6 months, after which it will be out-of-date and probably worthless, unless God does exist and the PC version comes out sooner than that.

The problem though is that when you press accelerator the game will always think you're pressing it all the way, even if you just press it gently.

the problem is that current windows only accepts digital key presses, that means anything emulating keys from something else has the same effect like if you really used keyboard. It loses any sense of having analogue controller.

I have tried everything listed in the threads you have posted on in order to get my g25 working within GTA4.

I tried the suggested "create a shortcut to the GTA4Launcher.exe and in the target line add "-usedirectinput" to the end of the string"

I tried to create a commandline document and put the " -usedirectinput" in the file then save and drop it into the main gta4 directory.

Both did the same thing as nothing "starting the game regularly" did for me.

I actually got my wheel "steering" working in game but here is my issues.

I managed to get the steering right. dialed out a lot of turn. went from 900 degrees to 187 degrees but there is no dead spot and it feels fluid now.

My issue is that no matter what I try the only pedal that works is the brake pedal by default.. Here is my settings configurations for the wheel.

Seperate axis

150% centering spring

force feedback off

In game I have the controls set to STANDARD and I think I am chosing the control configuration that has the throttle and brake assigned to the controller R and L trigger buttons but I am not sure how to make sure of that. All i do is go to the control configuration and then select the picture of the 360 controller that has the triggers asigned to l and r and I guess thats it right? Am I missing something?

I have my wheel working great in every way but being able to map buttons and such and also the darn throttle will not work at all. Only the brake. Now when I select Combine axis within the logitech settings then the throttle works but not the brake sad.gif(

I have spent 4 hours reading everything I could and all of the things that I have tried have given me the very same result. my wheel works but not both my pedals "gas and brake" it seems it is one or the other and there is nothing i can do about it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'm having issues with my G25 ingame.

I have the profiler you mentioned to set keystrokes to the pedals.

But they still control the camera.

In both Joypad & Keyboard + Mouse modes.

the wheel works but I need the accelerator/brake.
