As a PS3 owner I've never been bothered about the DLC and am not going to rush out and buy an xbox because of it. What do you lot make of it?

it's story packs.. pretty much the same as the half life 2 "episodes", they're pretty much the exact same thing. microsoft announced months ago that they wanted some sort of exclusivity for the game and they paid big bucks to get it.

I wouldnt go as far as comparing the DLC to a HL2 eppisode.

 

They actualy involved continuing the story line integral to HL2 and had completely new maps.

 

The DLC will most likely be new NPC characters with non critical missions they can give you.

You could think of them as LCS to III and VCS to VC minust the fact that they were sold as new games, if you know what I mean.

If the DLC extended the map and opened up new areas, then I'd be pissed. If the DLC only adds 10 hrs. of game play, then I could care less. Not worth $50 million. I figure I've got about 10,000 hrs. of free-roaming and carnage ahead of me, I'm happy.

Yeah no matter how many extra missions they release (if thats what it is) it could never give you as much game play as your own creativity could.

I think they are going to be watching multiplayer and coming up with new modes as well.

 

The DLC should be well worth it.

The future of downloadable titles and episodic gameplay depends on it. They are going to make sure we get beyond our money's worth.

According to Sam Houser, you're exactly right. It won't be 'epic' in the sense the Half Life 2 episodes are. But they will add a good amount of gameplay. I've read that the new missions are delivered to you by random encounters you have with pedestrians. These guys will give you a story of some sort, and you join their cause for a brief amount of time. The DLC won't alter the main story, or even introduce a new 'main' story: It will offer you a side campaign muck like, for example, the Dark Brotherhood/Theif's Guild campaigns in Oblivion.

 

It may not seem like much now, but I guarantee by August almost every single GTA owner will be scrambling to get their hands, in anyway possible, on the new content.

 

btw - this does belong in the Official news forum, if for nothing else than the fact that most of the rabid fanboychilds don't know this place exists!

If you look at other DLC content out now like Shivering isles for Elder Scrolls and that Mass effect one I don't think it will be less then that and knowing rockstar they haven't released anything That's just to earn money, like for example all EA games where ALL the features is on the back of the box...

Nope. Everyone is interested in the DLC, however I think a lot of people aren't that interested in the DLC because Rock* have chosen to remain nebulous about its price, content and availability. Plus, many of the folks who are purchasing a new console for GTA:IV aren't exactly blown away by the fact that to access it first, you'll have to purchase an extra accessory and a subscription to Live.

 

One thing that is funny is how few console users realise how much fan-made DLC will be developed for GTA:IV once it gets ported to the PC. There are mods right now that make SA look almost nextgen, along with total conversions, and thousands of car and mission mods.

I do remember the comment stating what VC and SA are to GTA3 being similar to what the DLC will be to GTAIV. Another comment they made said something about how they'll be able to market the DLC as "almost" full new games, and they mentioned the budget for the DLC is even bigger than the VC/SA budgets ever were.

 

Whatever it is, it's gonna be value for money, and worth buying in the exact same way GTA4 in general is worth buying.

If people like me dont care, how can it be fanboy jealousy? I lived without DLC since GTA 1. If the game has a beginning and a ending I am happy with it. That to me is not jelousy. I just dont give to be honest and wont "scramble" to go get the 360 version. I wanted GTA IV before DLC even existed. It has not changed my hype or decision.

Well acording to the oxm review it will be minimum of 10hrs of extra content that will be released in August.

 

Some people are thinking the first one will be concentrating on Nikos past so will concentrate on the story which would explain the 10hrs figure.

And the second one is total rumour but it is possible that they could add a previous island like Vice City or something.

 

Either way to burst your bubble a little you have to remember MS paid 50m for the rights to the content. That is more money then what Lair/Heavenly Sword/Warhawk probably made combined. MS are hardly the type of company to simply give money away.

I'll be honest here i havent bought any dlc for neither my 360 or ps3 and i'm sure loads of people are the same.

But if they made a Vice City on the rage engine and added the new stuff from GTA4 to that i would buy it in a heart beat as i'm sure most would

you wont get an honest opinion here from about 50% of the board users, as there PS3 users, and will come up with some excuse as to why there not interested. as someone else stated, if you love the GTA series, how could you not be interested in 20 extra hrs of gameplay?? its just blatant fanboyism, or their not really a GTA fan, their just getting it because everyone else is and the game has more hype than halo3.

 

saying it'll be some "extra NPC's and missions not relating to the main story" is just retarded, plain and simple. some people i swear think with there @ss, and not there brains. when a company loans you 50 million to make some content, you better believe your gonna get some serious content. 10 hrs of gameplay each is JUST like the half life episodes business model. not huge, but enough to further the story. you wont need it necessarily, BUT to get the most outta the storyline, you will. anyone denying this is just in denial.

 

lol but i know one thing, if they do add an island, or open airplanes for flight, this board will be a mess with PS3 users bitching and moaning, you think the console war topics are bad.... just wait until the DLC comes out. and theres really been no definite proof that they wont be adding an island, or opening up more buildings to go into. just some hearsay from a 3rd party reviewer, so its not like ANYONE has any clue what it will be, not even the blind sony defense force.

I can't wait to get my hands on GTA4, however come August I will no doubt have completed the campaign and just doing same old same old in multiplayer, with bursts of creativity here and there...

 

DLC will bring a fresh new face to IV by then, well welcomed I'd think.

 

Just think back to San Andreas when you completed it, you started collecting the packages or started base-jumping as your new career. Maybe you tried to get all the girlfriends etc etc.. then you got fed up, similar to Burnout: Paradise when you're going for you're Elite license.. it's just the same thing over and over again, I'd rather be at work.

 

Then...

BOOOM!

 

Another set of missions to work through, some new characters perhaps? Maybe a new car or bike? Maybe a new weapon or two?

 

End of the day, as has been said... the price that Microsoft paid for exclusive content means that Rockstar will be coughing up the goods. 50 million is a lot of cash.

 

Now read that again. 50 f*cking million!! 50 MILLION! That's a sh*tload of money.. Like... unbeleivabley big. I skimmed over it when I read it, but think how much that actually is, and we know that Microsoft's hard earned cash will be rewarded

Like I said. I was hyped before DLC was mentioned. That dont make me a PS3 fanboy. Besides I bought this sytem before GTA IV was announced. As I said. Both systems will have a beginning and an ending. I dont think there will be islands but we will see if the DLC proves me wrong lol.
