They say "respect to Crackdown" so i'm guessing it's going to be something Crackdown related other then orbs. Maybe the agency symbols....

Read the thread before posting wink.gif

Care to explain what you mean?

Ah i get it! You think it's Pidgeons right? Wrong!

Pidgeons have nothing to do with Crackdown so how could it be "A nod from Crackdown"? That implys they have copied something in a form of a tribute.

The flying rats will be one of the collectibles but GTA has many different collectibles. Off the top of my head i can remember packages/tags/Photo ops/Horse shoes/Oysters etc.. i'm sure there are loads i've forgot point is Pidgeons have no connection with Crackdown other then they can sit on rooftops...

The 'Nod' from Crackdown you are getting an erection over is that you can "you can hear them when they are close."

Okay?

Again you seem somewhat retarded....Pidgeons fly around right? So by that lodgic they would not be in a stationairy position such as a hidden package or other collectible would. So that would mean that technically the pidgeon would be in one place all the time and when you killed it it would never appear again. Because if it was just kill any old 100 pidgeons you could just kill all the pidgeons on the screen then drive off and come back and kill the re-spawned pidgeons and that would take about 1hr max to get all 100.

So again i think your wrong and think the pidgeons is just a side thing like the horse shoes or oysters from SA.

No.

There will be pigeons placed around the city, sitting on benches, rooftops etc. They will coo (ie, the noise like from crackdown) and you will shoot them.

Its already been stated in a preview that somebody shot a pigeon and it came up on screen 1/100 and the Rockstar rep said "You wen't ment to see that".

So then going back to what i initially said before you made your comments....

If it's Pidgeons then there would only be 100 in the game. Seeing as it's one of the biggest cities if not thee biggest in the world there would be a fair few more then 100.

Plus if you remember you could shoot/kill seaguls/birds in Vice City and San Andreas and they were everywhere, so i think it's pretty certain those things will be back for gta4. So as i said it looks more likely they will be just a side thing because they have been in previous GTA's.

I don't think the hidden packages will not be pigeons. The "1 out of 100 Flying Rats shot" will sort of be like the "Seagulls Sniped" from Vice City. Just a stat, something else needed for 100%

I think they will be pigeons (not pidgeons!) and, as stated in the review, that is why they will fit in an urban environment so well and make noise when you are near them. It's very obvious.

I was just wondering: it would be extremely cool if they would be flying around as well. Or when you miss a shot, they would fly away!

Edit: I just remembered, it said "Flying Rats shot 1 out of 100"

Ooh that's weird, i've always called them "rats with wings".

Nothing new. They've been called Rats with wings & Flying rats for years. Comes with the fact that they're disease ridden, just like rats!

Still they saved lifes of thousands american soldiers/european soldiers in World War II

so we could show them just a little bit of respect...

What is so 'modern' about pigeons? dontgetit.gif

Well either way, it's an achievement (360 version)

Fair point, so what could it be?

I can only think of Boomboxes. Do people still use those?

No one said the pigeons themselves were modern. They said they fit perfectly in a modern day city, which they do.

I think it's plainly obvious it's pigeons. The crackdown reference being a) the noise, as mentioned before and b) the fact that they'll very likely be in high places, such as rooftops or that.

They're not going to fill the city of floating orbs, CDs or any of that bollocks. It detracts from the style of the game, entirely. Whereas pigeons don't.

Oh, and everytime someone writes 'pidgeons' I grit my teeth.

Pigeons. That is it. Stop fussing. They are not a side thing. Remember GTA3n VC only had one type of collectable. All the clues are there, they fit well in modern cities (IE New york/London) They make a noise, and it has alredy been said that the guy got 1/100 for killing one enough said. The "orbs" are pigeons.

This is true. But the ones flying around NY didn't save anyone. biggrin.gif

But they will fill the city with those things because its part of gta history and they will want some of the humerous things to remain.

As for the modern city remark i think it could mean something along the lines of gadgets/technology simply because piGeons are in every city and have been for hundreds of years...

Whats humerous about a hidden package?

If they were going to keep something humerous in the game, thats been in all GTA's they would have kept the tank or something.

Shooting 100 pigeons fits perfectly into the game as the hidden packages.

You do know that the OXM quote actually proves that the Crackdown nod IS just the fact they make a noise, right?

"we will say they nod to Crackdown in that most crucial respect - you can hear them when you're close."

...and pigeons fit perfectly in modern cities. If I go to a modern city now, I will see a pigeon.

Since pigeons would be pretty hard to shoot out of the sky, it wouldn't hurt just programming +1 to the winged rats count until you kill 100, then if you kill more you just won't be alerted.

Why is everyone so set on pigeons? Why can't pigeons be one thing and the packages be something else? Sure, pigeons makes sense, but lets speculate... We can probably think of something else. Everyone is acting like they are completely certain it is pigeons... but no one knows. Let's have some fun and guess.

Pigeons doesn't seem like something to get too excited about... And would they really only have 100, and when you killed them all there would be no more... I would think that the hidden packages are something a little less setting related and something more fun and out of place. If there were only 100 pigeons in specific locations and you killed them all... then what? No more? I like pigeons, it adds to the city atmosphere... Killing 100 of them would be a fun goal, but I would hope that they respawn.

The packages are most likely something that won't respawn... I can't think of anything that I am happy with now, but pigeons doesn't feel right.

I like to have filthy sex with piDGeons, incidentally I also have orbs occasionally shooting out of my arse. Funny story really, I spent the last 10 years mastering the art of firing Chi out of my arse but unfortunately sometimes an excess of plasmic Chi energy looses from my botty cavity, often with devestating results.

I agree with the majority of posters that one of the collectibles wll be piDGeons though I will be highly surprised if they are the only ones, so surprised in fact that I may inadvertantly fire a bolt of chi out of my arse that kills my next door neighbour.

Other collectibles could be discarded syringes, fits with most modern cities and could help the local community, not sure what noise they might make though.

Also, killing god bothering sandwich board preachers or crap buskers could be a collectible, I see them often, they would be easy to hear and satisfying to 'collect'.

Because it's obvious that getting all packages would be an achievement, and the only achievement that comes close is the pigeon one. Therefore...

I'm thinking it could be the a ingame 3d miniature model of the GTA IV box and you collect them if you hear the GTA IV theme song nearby.....? Just my 2 cents.

Well i guess were find out soon enough hey, but i'm with theatomicmoose on this one and think pigeons will just be like the seagulls in vice city, there will be millions and you shoot any old hundred and it'l say "sniped 1 gull etc.."

I don't think whatever it is will respawn. But as i said were see in 2 weeks and i'll bump this thread to either bow down to your inteligence or to laugh at you for thinking the Crackdown connection was a pigeon smile.gif

Has anyone here played Fable: the Lost Chapters before? I think even the original Fable had it; it was this mission you took on early in your career...before you ever leave the Guild as a Hero in fact. The mission was to kill crows/ravens that were about the guild- they would sit on top of bushes or fence posts and you had to use a bow to take'm down. I imagine this pigeons thing will be much like that- maybe, because of the realism they're shooting for, it'll be a cyclical thing...like, you wouldn't see them at night or when its raining out (birds tend to either sleep or hide, depending on the situation) and maybe, if one happens to be around when you're in super-combat mode and happen to clip one with an errant rocket or grenade, you'd get credit for that kill as well.

Wouldn't really be 'Liberty City' without the pigeons.

Just the same, I think it would simply be an atmospheric. I really doubt you'd hear a constant cooing.

Besides, that would just be incentive to take them out.

From the OXM review...

Orbs

"Weve promised not to reveal gtas colectibales, but we will say they nod to crackdown in that most crucial respect - you can hear them when thier close. They also fit perfectly in a modern day city, and are far more satisfying to collect as a result."

I wonder what this could be? any thoughts?

collecting tramps that wud be the best thing.

@Twice - sure, on the middle pylon of the set of 3 in the background...the 'northern' set (as opposed to the 3 pylons 'below' or on the other side of that boardwalk). He should just turn around and blast in the general vicinity - the buckshot should spread enough to take it out at that distance.
