Purvis
The first ever GTA game I had was GTA3, and I was what... 8 when I got it. It wasn't any worse then TV back then, it was just a game. I'm not even scared by the game, and my dad knows that.

I'm not even scared by the game, and my dad knows that. holy moly man, I have seven year olds at home and I cant believe them playing the game at 8. I started playing the very first (2D) one when I was 10. But then again Im a strict parent. I cant see them playing games like these until they're like 21 but I have to get real and be practical about things. Im just protective of them. Im not concerned with the gameplay of killing and stuff, but more the storyline and the language in the game. I dont let them play because of that. The radios and dialogues are too strong for them I think. But its cool to have an insight like this. Thanks
freshlaundryX
Even if this picture is a fair representation, you only get 50 hours of play with the girl on the right, and we will get an extra 20 with the girl on the left.

noelpioroda
Once again, this thread was to help get rid of all annoying kids of around my age to stop ranting at their parents on a Grand Theft Auto Forum where we try our best not to flame at all, and just talk about how epic GTA IV is going to be. NOT ALL kids will be annoying, but definatly I agree that there is a big majority of kids who will dare to be annoying on GTA 4. But that's not the topic. I have seen a lot of posts about how many gamers have played GTA games ever since 10! That could be me saying I have played GTA Games ever since I was 12, on a GTA 10 forum. I do differ from all other kids, I love my parents, and will appreciate and accept all decisions my parents do have for the priveledge. If they do not wish for me to have the game, then it's all right. It's just a game anyways.

Capricornus
I'm sure most of us, if not all of us is aware that Grand Theft Auto is a Rated M game. Which possibly means There are many people who have strict parents who might not allow their underage children purchase or have it purchased for them. Let me get this straight, yes I know There are underage gamers who play adult themed games and I also understand that many don't have a side effect from playing that kind of content. The bottom line is Parents will be parents and sometimes you have to understand and respect your parents decision if they explain to you that you shouldn't have that kind of material. I'm tossing this out before the game comes out because I can hope to bring down the number of topics and threads from users here complaining about how much they hate their parents and how they somehow "ruined their life" because they can't have access to adult material under the age of Seventeen. GTAFourums is a site to discuss the game, not to discuss how angry and mad you get over your parents ruling. I'm gonna break it to most of you now, no one is going to give Two spoons over the fact you are restricted from Mature rated videogames. If you're going to rebel against your own parents by playing it behind their backs, fine, just don't spam our site with nonsence. Our Staff has enough threads and spam to deal with and the last thing we need is New Topics complied of childish rants. Besides, think about it this way, what good does it do to jump on here and talk terrible about people who are trying to raise you? It won't get you a copy and faster nor will it make you look any more mature than a Five year old at the Grocery store screaming and having a fit over wanting candy at the check out lane. Remember, while it's tough growing up it's even tougher being a good parent. I agree with you 100% man. Some of these kids on here would rather choose a game over their own parents. I find it more sad than pathetic. Kids saying "Yeah I'm gonna kill my mom cause she won't buyz me teh GTA IV!" Kids or not, they tend to live in the world of ignorance, some of them anyway. In the past there have been cases where kids killed their parents only because they couldn't get what they want. Bottom line, I chose my parents over anything. sh*t, they are the reason that I am on this Earth in the first place. If you can't get GTA then f*ck it, don't blame it on anyone. It's stupid as hell to fault your parent for being a good parent.

mar01006765
Sticky this, at least during the run up to the game. "Tell my parents why I should have GTA4" threads are becoming soooo tiring. Truth is this game is not for kids. Rockstar know it, Ratings Boards know it, Retailers know it and "dumb f*cking parents" know it. At 14 I probably wouldn't have understood the story anyway lol, I think the minimum age this game should be played at is 16. If I had kids I wouldn't be happy about them playing it under this age. GTASIX
'you do know this contains prostitutes, violence and drugs' Why the hell do they say that? Do they not want to make any money? What do they expect the response is going to be? "really? prostitutes and drugs?, I had no idea".

RONIN1191
also you have to understand most parents are hypocritical most of the time. like they tell you not to drink but they do it anyway, or not to curse but when they think your not around they say it all the time. To say it is hypocritical is to assume that the child and parent are on equal footing and there is some misdirection afoot. I'm here to tell you, they most assuredly are NOT; the items you mentioned are decidedly adult. Now lets talk about that term, 'adult'. As you know, there are adults who appear to be dumber than your average elementary-age child; they are classified as such because they are over 18, but that's about it. They may still live with their parents, may not even work or have a steady income but they're considered adult as far as the State goes. Those are the adults to whom you do NOT have to listen to as they are no better than a child. But, they are still considered an adult, just not one worth emulating. Either way, unless you're an adult, you're limited in certain areas, as it should be. If you're an adult, you're already paying the cost to be the boss, so if you want to drink, you can. Swear? You can. Do drugs? You shouldn't; but you can- but you should never allow your children to see or be privy to it. I say all that to say this- with parenting, it is always "do as I say, not as I do" - because until that kid is an adult, thats just the way it is. My kids will tell you; privacy, equality, autonomy- all these things can be had, as soon as they're out of the house paying their own way in this world. Until that happens, they're still kids in my eyes and they will be required to uphold the same rules that have always applied to them. It is that simple. I don't believe in negotiating with kids, there's no place for it in my house. I DO have an answer for everything where they're concerned and they can never win an argument with me. When in doubt, something is because I SAID SO. Call it old-fashioned, draconian even- but that is how I do it- my kids respect me for it. They fear me a little too...but that is how it should be. So, OT: no children, I agree. There are some who are responsible and mature enough and are not yet 17 that can handle this game, but I wonder at the majority who do not seem capable of discerning fantasy from reality. I think these ratings serve a purpose, even if they may be a bit broad in stroke.
