Vanzant
I'm sure most of us, if not all of us is aware that Grand Theft Auto is a Rated M game. Which possibly means There are many people who have strict parents who might not allow their underage children purchase or have it purchased for them. Let me get this straight, yes I know There are underage gamers who play adult themed games and I also understand that many don't have a side effect from playing that kind of content. The bottom line is Parents will be parents and sometimes you have to understand and respect your parents decision if they explain to you that you shouldn't have that kind of material. I'm tossing this out before the game comes out because I can hope to bring down the number of topics and threads from users here complaining about how much they hate their parents and how they somehow "ruined their life" because they can't have access to adult material under the age of Seventeen. GTAFourums is a site to discuss the game, not to discuss how angry and mad you get over your parents ruling. I'm gonna break it to most of you now, no one is going to give Two spoons over the fact you are restricted from Mature rated videogames. If you're going to rebel against your own parents by playing it behind their backs, fine, just don't spam our site with nonsence. Our Staff has enough threads and spam to deal with and the last thing we need is New Topics complied of childish rants. Besides, think about it this way, what good does it do to jump on here and talk terrible about people who are trying to raise you? It won't get you a copy and faster nor will it make you look any more mature than a Five year old at the Grocery store screaming and having a fit over wanting candy at the check out lane. Remember, while it's tough growing up it's even tougher being a good parent.

SovietWarrior42
True, these kids should respect their parents. I'm not a religious man, but I do think kids should follow the "Honor thy father and thy mother" commandment more.

jonny_zoo
I somewhat agree with you, everyones oppinions are very different about voilent content in video games, most parents would not allow their kids to play violent video games because the parents are worried about weather or not their kid will do anything stupid. Other parents would allow their kids to play such a game like GTA (which used to include my parents) because they know that their kids are sensible enough to not do anything stupid, I know for a fact that there are many young teens and people here who are under 17 or 15 depending on what country you are from. I can see why some people on here who's parents will not allow them to play/get GTA IV, because the drunk driving now added I can see many parents worried sick that their kids will do something stupid as that, among other things. Remember, while it's tough growing up it's even tougher being a good parent. i agree with you except for the last paragraph. i think they do it to vent off their anger and so this is the place they decide to do it rather than being "all up in their parents face about it" and pissing them off more. also you have to understand most parents are hypocritical most of the time. like they tell you not to drink but they do it anyway, or not to curse but when they think your not around they say it all the time. to the kids... also who cares if your parents dont let you get the game, usually if you know or own a system that can play GTA IV then sooner or later your going to play it or get your own copy, whether you have someone buy it for you or you go to a friends house and play it. MrKlorox
Agreed. A well thought thread title using reverse-psychology. I would have gone with "Paying Taxes Tomorrow? >> April 15... Tax Day" and failed to reach my audience miserably. EDIT: To add to the above post: Or import the 15+ rated Australian version if you are underage and own a PS3. Brian O'Toole
I agree, but what prompted this thread? I haven't noticed too many rantings. EDIT: To add to the above post: Or import the 15+ rated Australian version if you are underage and own a PS3. i doubt they would import a game just for the rating (edited version) why? well because first of all they would need access to a credit card, and im sure they wont go asking their mommy and daddy if they can use it. also majority of parents hardly know anything about ratings so once they hear "GRAND THEFT AUTO IV" their initial reaction would be NO because they would assume it would be the same thing, which it probably is because R* said that there would not be any significant changes. their best bet is to have someone who is old enough to get it, get it for them, or just go to a friends house, because theyre bound to know someone who has THIS game. SerenUnderdog
like klorox said, there is always the aussie version. When i think about it, that would be nice if this version was available world wide, probably only via online buy so retailers wouldn't buy stock they are not sure to sell, but this would increase the range of players
Vanzant
I agree, but what prompted this thread? It's a fair warning from somebody who has seen it happen before. Plus I know making threads like that may result in Warnings and Temp-Bans. Basically it's a friendly heads up.
MrKlorox
their best bet is to have someone who is old enough to get it, get it for them That would be immoral and will eventually be illegal.

huntedprey
a topic that finally makes sense. I never understood why people never respect the parents (no matter how strict or placid they are), end of the day, they are the ones that brought you up (to some degree) and will always have more wisdom due to being alive longer! No daughter.. you can't play GTA 4... you are only 4 years old they grow up so fast :s

doa kappatango
I have 4 kids and fully agree with this thread. Sure, I have been gaming forever, and have played games underage, of course. The point is this - As a 34 year old father, I will not even have the game within reaching distance of my kids, the oldest of which is 11. Now I know this is younger than this thread is aimed at, but all children have to have a respect AND understanding of what is asked of them. I cannot wait for GTA IV to be in my posession, but I will damn sure wait until my kids are safely in bed before it goes into my machine. I have taken the day off work, so will get my early fix, but after that - watershed only I'm afraid. If you respect your parents, they respect you - that makes for a much happier life. !GaMeR!
my parents came from bangladesh, so when i buy any sort of 18+ game they wouldnt give a sh*t firstly because english is not their strong language and secondly, because they know i wont be influenced by the game. but i've always wanted to know, teenagers with english speaking parants, do they stop you from buying an M rated game because it will influence you, or because of the content of the game
