Weird Denise bug

I've started a new game, and I'm experiencing a bug with Denise I've never seen before. I can pick her up for a date, but she doesn't say a word unless bumped or if I wreck the car. No banter, no suggesting a drive-by. I can go into the pizza joint for a date, and the regular sequence plays, but then there is nothing about taking her back home. She gets in the car, but when I get to her house, there is no marker. I drove her all over without the game saying she was bored, and I abandoned her without it saying I abandoned her. I even punched her a number of times without her saying a word. And one time when I abandoned her, I got a positive increase in "progress with Denise" several minutes later. Because the date doesn't end, however, I can't go back in the pizza place nor can I save at my house. The save marker is gone. I am able to start new missions, though, which brings the save marker back.

 

Just noting it in case it's a new one. I think I have a save from before I torched the apartment building, so I'm going to start from back there and see if I can avoid the bug. If not, I'll probably start over. Who knows what trouble will await me down the line if I just ignore it.

 

I'll keep my buggy save for a while in case anyone wants to look at it.

Do you have any mods installed or any cheat that you think might have caused this weird behaviour?

BTW, thanks for the detailed description of the problem. At the moment I'm at a lost as to what in the save file could cause this. It doesn't sound at all like the cheat related glitches. Mods often have strange influences; got anything installed? My best guess at the moment is something didn't get set up correctly in Denise's stats during Burning Desire, so yeah, reverting to a previous save is a good idea. If it works, please upload the working Denise file as well for comparison.

 

Um... do you have the 4 star skills to visit Katie or Michelle? Actually, just for the test, perhaps lock the wanted level with cheats or a trainer in order to visit the other girlfriends. I'm curious if they are also silent during a date.

Well, I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to be much help. I quit the game and went back, and the dates now seem to work. It was strange, though. I went to pick up Denise, and she said, "That was some fine ass food!" right before saying, "Hey, baby! Can we get something to eat?" From that point on, the date was back to normal--her complaining, asking for a driveby. I ignored her and took her to dinner, and the marker was at her house after we were done.

 

Before I tried that, I went back to the older save. I'm having some big troubles with that one, for some reason. When I try to save Denise from the burning building, I keep getting bluescreens. I thought it was related to installing Nvidia's stupid ntune (have a Geforce 7600 GT), which was causing me lockups in Windows, but now I'm having the problem even after doing a system restore to before that. I did have this bluescreen problem before I succeeded in saving Denise, so maybe it has something to do with the date glitch.

 

I'll refrain from saving over my current save in case you still want to take a look at it. In the meantime, I'll try to go set something up with Katie. I do know how to steal a plane before I'm supposed to.

 

Oh, and no mods and no cheats.

 

Edit: Dates seem to be working. I made Katie my girlfriend, and she came out and said, "You're really not my type." I guess I need to raise my sex appeal. But, at least it's a normal, non-glitchy response.

 

Edit 2: Got a Jester, Katie got in and first asked to be taken to dinner and then I got the "bored her legs shut" message. That is probably normal behavior with a four-star wanted rating.

Yep, that's normal. I think only 3 stars are required to fail the date. You've got 6 minutes between that message and Katie running off, which is just enough time to complete the unique jumps in San Fierro with her as a passenger. I've got a custom save set up for this challenge if you are interested.

 

But as long as the dates are working, I guess the save is a little less interesting. Still, I encourage you to upload it to SnP where it can sit for reference in case something else like this turns up.
