mark3boyz
I found this video on the website PS3 fanboy. Mind you it only works on the 40 GB model. All you do is flick your PS3 powerswitch off in the back and flick back into the on position while you hold down the eject button until the fan kicks in over drive. Soon your PS3 will be blowing better then Jenna Jameson. The fan will stop on its own when its done. BTW how does one embed a youtube video in their post? Hodgey.
Cool, thanks for this i gotta try it as my room is pretty dusty so hopefully this will help out.
Kimd41
It works good on my 40Gb, sh*tload of dust got out.
mark3boyz
If yours is in an entertainment center like mine I would recomend pulling out your HDMI cord and flipping it around and pointing it the opposite direction so the dust doesnt just get pushed out right where its going to be sucked up again. Its probably common sense but I told my friend and thats exactly what he did. I was like Oh and thanks i<3polarbears i didnt realize it would be that easy. Oh and by the way I too love polar bears. YourNeighborhoodKiller
It doesn't work for 80GB?

YourNeighborhoodKiller
I dont think so but its worth a try I won't take the risk of it breaking. If my current one gets too dusty. I can just go get a new one from Best Buy, saying that it broke. But right now, it's fine.
Shylock
What possible risk? It is the system turning the fan on....
YourNeighborhoodKiller
What possible risk? It is the system turning the fan on.... Yeah but it's for 40GB only. Who the hell knows what it'll do to my 80.
Skyline_Mad
I tried it on my 60GB, nothing happens, it just does the usual disc eject or tripple beep if theres no disc.
Ronnyboy
Tried it out, holy balls did it get loud and clear. But it looks like when I bought it. Thanks for the tip Egon!
monkeyman237
I tried it on my 60GB, nothing happens, it just does the usual disc eject or tripple beep if theres no disc. Damn, thats annoying. Wonder why it is only available for the 40GB, it did come out last but weird how it wouldn't work on the 80 even.
Abel.
It doesn't work for 80GB? Just tried on my EU 60 gig, no luck, sorry.
s-paco
I heard this can be dangerous, it can burn your CPU....
Shylock
I heard this can be dangerous, it can burn your CPU.... I did it last night, worked fine. As far as I could tell the PS3 wasn't actually "on" and the fan didn't work any harder then it does when the system gets warm and the fan kicks into overdrive. And I didn't actually see anything fly out...
Kimd41
I heard this can be dangerous, it can burn your CPU.... I think they were talking about the 20/60/80Gb method where you make your PS3 to overheat.
sainraja
I don't recommend doing the technique for the 20/60/80GB PS3. The 40GB unit had the function......the older models don't.
Bohan Souljah
Thanks,I tried it and it only lasted for 15 seconds, guess my ps3 wasn't that dusty.

Slamman
Do we have two of the same topic here? Does this method work better then a wet towel covering the unit? I never bothered with my 60GB trying it because it works well enough even with my dusty environment already. The long term will be the test, and if need be, I'll file an update. I am not expecting problems, but then, who is??
mark3boyz
Does this method work better then a wet towel covering the unit? I dont know what youre talking about but I dont think you should be covering your PS3 with a wet towel at any point in time... ever... unless there is a fire in your house and you need to save it like a new born baby. KillerKabel
So this won't make my 40GB version explode right? Might try it. Even though I just did it 20 minutes ago with a vacuum cleaner.

Yeah well if your going to break it, Its better to do it while its still under warranty. But i wouldn't do it with GTA IV less than 2 days away (less :* )
