kaotik
I was thinking, one thing that really really needs to be added to GTA4 is vehicle damage as the result of hitting peds. I can't understand why in the past this has not been the case, but it makes no sense that you can drive through a sidewalk full of people and come out looking like you just drove off a dealer lot. What do you guys think? Will it be implemented in GTA4? Is there a reason it shouldn't be?

I know that blood will appear on cars. As seen in several Screenshots.
perspextive
Great topic! I think it's doable, but it'd be difficult to calculate that many floating point interactions and still hold up FPS/processing power. I think they choose to dumb it down to blood splatters and realistic effects. But I could be wrong, remember that when a person fell off scaffolding onto a car, it shattered in! They might just have it
HushBull <3rdEye>
Yeah, certainly. If I mow down a ped hitting them square in the knees, causing them to buckle and give way, that persons head should smack right onto the hood leaving a bloody mess of matted hair and skull fragments right in the middle of circular dent. Mikeol1987
its been in previous GTA's. I find if you drive slow-ish into a ped it inflicts damage (especially on Vice City) but drive fast into them and you get nothing. In GTAIV I think they should add damage (visual) but not damage to actually effect the cars performance. RIP Rockstar Games 1998 - 2021

I do recall seeing a trailer where a corpse fell from a building and landed atop a SUV crushing the cabin in. I hope to see this type of reactive damage as well. Does anyone know what kind of damage engine is being used? RAGE is the game engine, correct? And they're using Havok/Euphoria and what else? I've been trying to research what all is going into the physics and damage models but there is very little info I can find. Anyone able to shed some light? What other game will the damage models be comparable to?
