Now besides from the extremely repetitve missions and the way too cheesy plot and characters SR is just behind GTA SA, Scarface and The Godfather for my top crime free roam games. Now I love most free roam games so I'll usually get 1 that looks good to me and to be honest SR 2 looks excellent to me. While not to the extent of GTA 4 it is on my top 10 must get games for 2008. I just purchased the first one to see how "good" it was supposed to be. and the game is complete crap. the cars handle as you would expect a budget title to. there is no atmosphere in the game. the cutscenes have horrible lip-syncing. the city is dull, and the traffic in the game is dull. I honestly believe it was one of the worst games I've ever played... oh, and it stole the control scheme straight from gta which was incredibly lame. zengonzo Posted April 14, 2008 Share Posted April 14, 2008 I still don't see why people would feel the need to choose one or the other. It's not like the open world action game is a crowded market. Compared to the FPS genre, it's practically desolate. I'm enthusiastic for any game that at least brings a quality take to the genre, and Saints Row, while not GTA by a stretch, is still a quality game. I hope they mature it a little bit, the old game seemed targeted at a more sophomoric crowd. But for the most part it allowed you to take it in your own direction, aside from the missions. Driver might have been first to the market with a 3d open world, but GTA's very first game could be said to have been a heavy inspiration for Driver. Your point remains, though, that there's nothing wrong with building on previous works, and people ought not treat it as a point of derision. DMannDD Posted April 14, 2008 Share Posted April 14, 2008 I actually just bought Saints Row to get my fix for the open world game. This wait is killing me. Why is there so much hate for this game? Yes, it takes a lot from GTA but who cares?? How long have we been waiting for GTA IV?? Feels like forever. Although, I know Rockstar will make it worth it, it is still tough. Saints Row is a perfect stop-gap. Has a couple of cool ideas and you can get it for less than 30$ US. I have enjoyed playing it, grabbing your boys and going after a gang is real fun to me. The FBI is retarded and the wanted level really doesn't stop me from doing anything though. Maybe GTA IV can take something from Saints Row and have the Peds commit suicide? In Saints Row you have major NPC characters you can call to join you at just about any time, even during missions. Something which they seemed desperately needed by San Andreas.
