jackrubyn
I was reading previews of the older GTA's when I noticed that alot of the info being revealed were nothing but falsities. Why is this? Is it outright lies from Rockstar, which I doubt, or is it just like that game you played as a kid where you had to whisper a word in someones ear and they'd whisper it to another person, and it'd continue like that until it was a completely different word than when it started. For instance; - What you can steal and carry from home robberies depends on your physical fitness and strength you've accumulated in the gym. - When selling stolen goods to the fence, you can negotiate the price.(Unsure about this one.) - You can jack the tram in San Fierro. - You can talk to pedestrians with dialouge boxes ala RPG game. - There does not seem to be a physical limit as to how high you can fly. - CJ's mobile will help you get back on track if you get lost. - There is a motel at the top of Mount Chilliad." (The same goes for GTA3 and Vice City previews.) These are all bullet points from the same preview. And that got me thinking: How much of what we know from GTA IV previews will actually be in there? Discuss. Source
DCRJonez
well, we don't know how much is true! still an interesting topic. GJ
SerenUnderdog
probably why R* kept it low profile this time, tired of journos taking for granted possible features that R* discussed with them but couldn't implement in the end, or weren't all that fun afterthought... jaseypea
Well there are two explanations for this: Firstly (and we've seen it in previews of GTAIV) journalists see something in the game, put two and two together and then state it as a feature in the preview, without Rockstar actually confirming that it is a feature (the holding weapons in the rear of vehicles is a prime example). Another good example come from the original post - "There does not seem to be a physical limit as to how high you can fly", which is clearly speculation from the journalist playing the preview. Secondly I'm sure they're some features Rockstar originally planned to put in the game but for one reason or another decided to take it out later along in the game's development process. I don't think it's a case of Rockstar going out to intentionally deceive their fans (why would they). Edited April 13, 2008 by jaseypea
Jayt001
They were probably things that were in the beta versions, but then taken out of the final game for various reasons. It's called game development, things change as they progress through the development of the game, usually for the better.... You can't take everything you read as fact that it will be in the final game. Just don't dwell on it. All will be forgotten come the 29th. I reckon there will be more new features in the final game than ones taken out
jackrubyn
You're missunderstanding me. Sure, things change during development, but that's all the more reason to wonder what actually will be in GTA IV.
Fnorg
You're abslolutely correct! But i don't think we've been cheated that much with IV Exactly what we though about VC and SA, but see how that turned out. We were supposed to be able to wash cars in SA. Look at this. A guy made a bunch of video displaying the changes in the beta version of the games. If you don't feel like watch all, watch the third, San Andreas. It contains most changes. Well we'll find out in 15 days!! There were lots of things in SA that we're taken out. I still have my copy of OPSM when they did their first all-access preview of SA and when I read it now, there are so many things that didn't make the cut. Like car washes that worked. Actually that feature is said to be in IV as well right? I hope they don't get rid of it this time though.

SerenUnderdog
LOL, those vidz are exactly the reason people aare wondering where went all the nice features... come on, a pic of a gang member in a cluckin bell, and you assume that gang member were to follow you inside? a pic of a car next to a car wash and you assume that when your car is dirty you'll have to clean it.... Uh, yes, when the previews specifically state that you can use the carwashes (I'm not saying anything about gang members following you into diners and such) you can only assume that that is the case. SerenUnderdog
and by that you assume that a preview is a review.... Once again, I'm not saying that every little piece of info given away in previews is always 100% reliable, I'm just wondering what features that we know of this far will be cut from IV. 8300dvo
its not false, im guessing at 1 point within the early build, that info was correct but had to be cut, maybe for preformance or maybe because it was pointless. but the point is they werent lying

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did you or did you not just suggest I form an emo band if I was unhappy with the game? (By the way, a 12 year old boy just called and wants his joke back.) If so; where exactly do I suggest that I'm unhappy with the game? (The nine millionth time's the charm?) I WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT FEATURES WILL BE CUT FROM GTA IV. Eight Legged Freak
I WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT FEATURES WILL BE CUT FROM GTA IV. Probably nothing that's been covered recently, but you can look at older, more 2007-y material and you can guarantee there'll be some changed aspects to that. [-Vice-Andreas-]
I think that the hardware of PS2 is to blame for all the things cut from previous GTA's. I'm assuming that the technology we have now will let us do most (or all) of the things mentioned. But I wouldn't be surprised if things like car wash's were stripped again.
