The whole scene that this character will get involved in and how R* tells this story will be very interesting to watch as it all plays out. Playboy X could have been the main character, but he seems very over the top and built up. R* isn't aiming to tell a story from that perspective this time. Considering New York is filled with different criminal groups it would be unfortunate to step into familiar territory (Namely an African American street gang vibe). Not when we've now got Eastern Europeans, Irish, Bikers, Peurto Ricans and God knows what else. Niko is a good choice because he's original and the "free agent" idea worked brilliantly in GTA III.
