Schleich
I don't know if this was posted before but every damn car has Liberty City as their license plate. Do you think this is just for the previews or will it actually be like. Cause that'd be just gay. I was thinking maybe I could write down a plate number and drive away coming back to see if I could find the same car again [Proving they don't just poof away forever] Thanks. But they kinda do 'poof away forever', just not as quick. (hopefully) I don't know if that is just a minor detail they will change before release or whether they will all be the same. End of the day its not that big deal.
redwolf206
I'm assuming it was only for previews, just in case they used a real plate number and some random guy sees it and complains about it. If not, oh well, I never really read the plates anyway (well, except on special cars, lol).

OptimumPx
We've noticed that in all the screens since day one over a year ago all the license plates have said 'LIBERTY CITY'. In the official art for the game (including the box art) they don't say that though. Odds are that in the actual game the plates will be randomly generated...with the execption for cars tied to specific people...like Roman's car. Besides, I doubt you'd be able to read it anyway unless you use a "front of your car" view.

If not, oh well, I never really read the plates anyway (well, except on special cars, lol). what are the odds of that lol Well see here in America, I don't know how it's done in other countries, but we have a 6 digit license plate thats 3 random letters, and 3 random numbers, unless you pay the extra money to get a custom license plate. They could easily make it where a license plate in GTA IV was only letters, and 10 digits long.

Ahhh I didn't know that, and I lived in California before I moved to Texas, which has a 6 digit plate, 3 letters and 3 numbers. I do know that some states, like North Carolina only 1 plate is allowed like the back plate, while in Texas you must have 2, front and back. I think it's ridiculous that R* made such a detailed game and you think they're going to forget something stupid like license plate numbers. Listen, the plates will all be different Liberty City plates, there's always a chance you'll find some random car with the same plate as a car you jacked 50x ago, but hey - no game is perfect, and to be honest, who gives a f*ck? GTAOCD
Anyone ever think about personalized license plates? (Oh yeah, that right, nothing customizable.)
ryuclan
Anyone ever think about personalized license plates? (Oh yeah, that right, nothing customizable.) What will I ever do without custom license plates? Why does this even matter? Through the course of playing the GTA series I ahve glanced at exactly 2 license plates. Both in San an. Magic_Al
The reason this is an interesting topic is it's a realism detail San Andreas had and it's strange if GTA4 doesn't have it. There are reasons for getting rid of some of San Andreas' features but it's hard to think of a reason for this. For all the time you look at the back of a vehicle in GTA you'd think more people would notice these details.

SovietWarrior42
FFS, how many times do I have to hear "Who cares?" on this site. If the game was shooting for realism, then why wouldn't there just be a few random plates? That way some cars look a little different.
