Dude, you don't have to buy anything. It comes with a 3 year warranty. You're wasting time talking on these forums. Just call Microsoft tell them you got the 3 red lights and they'll send you a box with free shipping to put your xbox in, send it to them, and get back a new one. all free. livnew Posted April 4, 2008 Share Posted April 4, 2008 I am one of the few PS3 owners that's had to send theirs in for repair. My BluRay drive started buzzing bad and scratching discs (DVD only). Sony was wicked easy to work with, though; and it took just 12 days, including time in transit, to get my replacement. I think Sony had it in their hands for a total of about 32 hours. So, my experience with trade in was prompt, but I don't know how MS is, especially since they have a much larger amount of repairs to process. I am another person who had to send my PS3 in mate lol, one of the unlucky ones, my laser reader bust and my game would freeze, they brang me a replacement in 2 days. People with a dead 360 would be increasingly less likely to invest in another one, instead possibly opting for a PS3. So it's most likely they did it to retain their share of the market. No matter how you look at it, we all know that the failure rate of the 360 is unacceptably high, and the PS3's is not. Spreaking stricitly in terms of hardware reliability there's no contest. It just has to be said in a politcally correct manner or else 360 fans will interpret it as bashing. Truth is, it's only bashing if it is done with a certain intent. But if you are just discussing it logically then it's not bashing. I have both consoles and neither has crapped out so far. Had the PS3 since July 07 and had the 360 since Sept 23, 2007 (two days before Halo 3 came out, even though Halo 3 wasn't the real reason why I got it). I do look at my 360, though, and wonder how many years it will be here before Microsoft replaces it. The PS3, though, I am sure will be here much longer. I say this because the PS3 has Blu-Ray, and Blu-Ray won the format war. With a DVD drive, the 360 has to be replaced soon so developers like Rockstar and Infinity Ward (who both have said disc space was an issue) can have the CHOICE of whether or not they want to compress this or that. Being forced to compress is not as good as having the choice. I got mine significantly later than the release. Pretty much for Dead Rising. So when the RRoD became widely reported, mine stayed clean for a long time, and I got the impression I'd gotten off easy. It ended up dying with The Orange Box. Gog Posted April 4, 2008 Share Posted April 4, 2008 I know I'm going to sound like a fanboy, but I'm not. I have both systems, love them both & have been fortunate to not get the red-rings yet. But since the red-rings are thought to be caused by over-heat (ie over-use), & GTAIV is going to be one of those games where you'll spend days playing straight, I see a lot of red-rings in the near future. I'm sure they're used to it by now! Without me saying a word the UPS employees at both the pick-up and delivery knew exactly what it was. JOKA22 Posted April 4, 2008 Share Posted April 4, 2008 As a PS3 owner I could take the low road and say things like "told ya so" but my PS2s died in the middle of game play (SA for example, mostly) and I was straight pissed, but I never paid full price and I got them used, so they had a good life all in all. Yea my PS2 had to be fixed twice, once the disk tray wouldnt open and the other it just died and i got a refurbished one for £50, PS3 seemed to fix some of the problems though Wow.The disc tray thing happened to me on release with the ps2.I was playing matt hoffmans bmx and it straight crapped out on me. These days, it seems as though no one escapes. Microsoft said it was a design flaw so anyone with the original design is susceptible. Even the newer model doesn't seem safe. They only made the CPU to be 65nm, but it's the GPU that's the problem, and that's still 90nm. Replacing/improving the wrong component and saying it should be better is a marketing decision, not a tech-geek decision. Morally, I think 360 owners should be able to sue MS in a class-action lawsuit for defective products. I don't know if there is a law that would support it, though. There should be.
