Sound Waves

Vive La France

Recently, I had an idea which I hope GTA IV shall have implemented.

When you stand next to a highway, and listen to the cars, you hear the sound waves being compressed, making a sound "NEEEEARWROOM", as I like to put it. What I mean is that the sound is higher and as the car gets closer to you, the sound gets deeper because of the increased sound frequency. I know some of you may not understand this, but what I am saying is basically, will you be able to hear far away objects as if they are far away.

This is in heaps of games already. I know it's in World of Warcraft and that game is a couple of years old. I'm sure GTAIV will have it in it.

It's called Doppler Effect, by the way.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.

Grand Theft Auto 4's sound is amazing. People who saw the leaked video a while backs know this.

I hope the cars actually sound realistic this time.

I like the way the cars sounded in the previous GTAs.

This man is correct, and it has been used in many games already. If I'm not mistaken, it's been in GTA since III. For example, a cop car in the distance has its siren on, and as it comes closer, the pitch of the siren changes, and changes again once the cop car passes you. I could be wrong about it being in III, but I'm pretty sure it was.

I dont know if this is off topic but does anyone know if you will be able to hear music in the other cars passing by? or if your walking down the road and a car stops at a light, would you be able to hear the music in the car?

THIS has definatly been confirmed.

And to the topic creater, why wouldnt they have that effect? I mean they do have the sound effect i wouldnt doubt any other sounds to be affected that way. (As in the doppler effect)
