iCoke
We all hear the reasons why GTA 4 got delayed the first time but that isnt the point of this post. The Blue Ray disc can hold 50 GB which,as you know the PS3 uses for all its games. The Xbox 360 uses HD-DVD which can only hold 9 GB. Now I'm not knocking the 360 and its hardware, but imagine how much better GTA 4 would be if the 360 used Blue Ray as well. Bigger is not always better but I think due to the limitations of the HD-DVD I believe Rockstar couldnt make the game that they truly envisioned and as a result we all suffer from this. So basically you are saying since we dont all have vitual reality suits Rockstar cant make the game they want to make. is this not the case for every game, the fact that modern tech has limits? why even discuss, this is the biggest fail Ive seen. nirvana89
I hate when people don't agree with my opinions Thats funny. I am laughing right now thanks On topic I think the game was delayed because the xbox 360 uses DVD format, ya that makes alot of sense. Never said that the Xbox was the reason. manofpeace
It doesn't matter which console it's on. Rockstar made sure both versions of the game would be identical. And besides, isn't it good enough? Why do people want such ridiculous sizes for games? 50 GB would be good if you wanted to make GTA based around a whole country and let it take 20 years to make and several billion dollars. Get real, a game that size will only exist MAYBE 20 years from now. EDIT: I've seen the topic starter says size doesn't matter, but still, the Xbox is hardly limiting Rockstar's dream. They even said that this IS their dream!

sattizahn
Listen, the second Rockstar considers utilizing all compressed 50-some gigs of 1 Blu-ray disc for GTA IV, call me, 'Cuase if they did, they must be programming EARTH-2 or a whole f*cking planet. If MGS 4 can fill up an entire Blue Ray disc then why would you think that a GTA game couldn't? No where in my consistent, coherent response did I mention anything close to the words "MGS 4." Nothing that I said applied to anything except GTA IV. Everyone in this room is now dumber after listening to you response. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul... (Billy Madison reference) But on topic, games fill discs all the time, but do not necessarily utilize the entire potential of the disc. Plasticity, you know what I mean? But just because one system will fill a 9gb disc while one fills a 50gb disc does not mean that gameplay, or anything for that matter, will be different....kinda like the volume of steam and water. Same substance, different space being filled...

If MGS 4 can fill up an entire Blue Ray disc then why would you think that a GTA game couldn't? In all fairness I love MGS but it is almost like an interactive movie. Think about it not much gameplay is in it. Just alot of cutscenes. To get GTA to fill up the full disc would be just about impossible. I would be in utter shock if R* could pull something like that off.
mckjuana
If MGS 4 can fill up an entire Blue Ray disc then why would you think that a GTA game couldn't? Yeah, but knowing MGS wont that simply be about 150 hours of cinematic quality (but dull) cut scenes and a 10 hour game? open door - cut scene - close door - cut scene - change mind turn around and reopen same door again - cut scene - in his haste Snake stubs toe on corner of door - ENORMOUS cut scene (with flashback scene to an earlier toe stubbing incident). etc etc yawn

chitoryu12
Your an idiot it was already said that the PS3 was one of the reasons for the delay. It is a lot harder to make a game on the PS3 than it is 360. ON average a game being made for PS3 will costs about 4 million more to release their game for PS3, this is a well known fact. This is driving smaller game companies like Bioware away from the PS3. Also GTA4 was designed around the 360 so it doesn't make much sense why the 360 would be the cause of the delay. Whats with people like you? I have absolutely nothing against the Xbox. Calling people names is a sure sign of your immaturity. Metal Gear Solid 4, according to all accounts, filled up an entire Blue Ray Disc so do no tell me it cant be done. I realize that some people may read this post and immediately flame me as being a Sony fanboy and quite honestly I'm very sorry for that. That isn't my intention at all you guys. Unfortunately I can't say the same about others on this forum. No, it's not immaturity. You just really need to be let into. Believe me, there's a lot worse to be called than "idiot" and "fanboy". iCoke
I know how difficult it would be do this feature but do you honestly believe the PS3 isn't capable of doing it? A Blue Ray is capable of holding 50GB. HD-DVD can only hold 9 GB. Dont you think the 360 is holding it back somewhat? This is all you go one about, you blame the 360. are you done lieing fool? Textures: usually are around 600-700mb (I doubt GTA IV will even have textures that big) Sound: 200-300mb Meshes: 300mb Movies: 37-80mb (this will be a lot bigger in GTA IV due to the cutscenes being 8 hours long total ) Havok Data: 4.58mb Maps: 400mb Animations: 100mb There will be a few more files that bring the data up to around 5-8GB

You'd run out of ideas, before you run out of space. Also the developers compress the data, maybe R* should just keep the data in it's a original size for PS3. jonny_zoo
As I said before it wasen't the Xbox 360 or the PS3 that delayed GTA IV, it was because the game was not finnished and that was obvious from the screens at that time. SE4NNNN
Funny thing is, you can make yourself feel all better about your bad decision of buying a ps3 ( only buy it if your going to play sony exclusives ) but thats not going to help when in 3 years Bill gates dishes out like 30 bil to have a system that reads Tera-byte discs ( 1000 GIGS )and your cruddy ps3 is still only running with a puny 50 gig blu-ray.
