xhi4
Rockstar has produced an edited version of Grand Theft Auto IV for Australia in order to obtain an MA15+ rating. The Office of Film and Literature Classification awarded the game an MA15+ rating on December 11 last year, advising consumers that the game contains "strong violence, strong coarse language, drug and sexual references". A Rockstar spokesperson confirmed to Screen Play yesterday that the company had produced a special version of GTA IV to comply with the Australian classification system, which does not currently contain an R18+ rating, but declined to reveal what material had been cut. THE WHOLE ARTICLE How incredibly gay is that for us Aussies!! I remember they said 'oh yeah no version will be censored'.........gay. I reckon itll be the hooker thing, It better not be the getting drunk thing, but as I said I bet it's the hooker thing.

Transparanoia
My guess is that they got rid of hookers or something like that. Who cares? Can you honestly say that it's such a big deal? Sure, it sucks that we're getting crappy censorship but at least it's not something that will affect the overall game. BUT, if it is something to do with toning down violence (Which I highly doubt) then I just might import from our Kiwi brothers.

Sterlk
Lock this... its by no means official, and a thread of the same content is in the general discussion (the correct) section. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=323060&st=0 Geez, I haven't been here in ages. Yes I am aware that the SMH and other places have said the Australian version will be edited, direct you attention to exhibit A Exhibit A Notice that the version is marked as original, and has already been classified in 2007. Since the game had already been classified I highly doubt Rockstar would have resubmitted the game for reclassification of its own accord, seeing as they've already rated it; I don't see the OFLC requesting a submission for reclassification either. Until you hear it from Rockstar, consider the report proof that the media isn't always right; if you assume the media is always right... direct your attention to the US' Fox News and have a look at what they did to Mass Effect. GTA_Godfather
If 15 is the highest rating Australia has then I'm sure the edit is justified. GTA is definitely not for kids. R* has already come right out and stated it. Bigger question is, 'Why there isn't an 18+ rating?'. BTW, politics/monopolies/all that other stuff has nothing to do with GTA's rating. truthspitta
I could see this coming a mile away.I've already preordered GTA:IV from http://www.gpstore.co.nz/ And just so everyone understands. This is not the majority opinion of Australian politicians but the opinion of ONE politician who happens to reside in Canberra and thinks that video games are made for children. I've been trying to get something done for years now to change the law to allow Australia to have a 18+ rating but as soon as in falls in his lap it turns to sh*t... EDIT: I should probably point out the governments today are influenced by private corporations and the concentration of media ownership in Australia means that the freedom of the press is very limited for that of a western country. Australians think they live in one of the freest countries in the world. Try and google 'The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Legislation Amendment Act 2003. The ASIO Act' This granted our government more powers than the Patriot Act did for the US government. Ant at the moment these powers are being abused. /rant.
