CaptainDude
I understand very well the vibe of the OP. Now that money is less easy to acquire, i hope that having a car will be more enjoyable (and more of a hassle). I think this is the direction R* wants to go, since public transportation in GTAIV is far more complex than in the other GTA's, and i'm excited about it. My experience with GTA is that you are too free in certain aspects, of course, a criminal is more free than other persons since they don't abide by societal rules (and its official representation: the Law), but surely man is born in freedom he is cast into chains everywhere he goes afterwards. A little scenario of what i would like to see and feel when i'm playing GTAIV, you have a car (either you bought it or stole it), this is your car for many missions, it is your car for cruising, social missions, etc. etc. you have to take care of it, since it is not easy to steal a car or it is not easy to acquire a great amount of money in a short period, no, you must really feel like this is your car, every dent on it must gnaw on your mind for a little while, but not too much, of course. If it gets stolen you're angry, if you are carried away by some other mobster a few miles from your car, you search for the nearest bus stop and go back to your car. I didn't hate the easy car theft in the other GTA's (and i'm not implying that doing crazy things with cars should be the hardest thing in GTAIV), but it was all too easy, you cannot walk upon the freeway and "jack" a car, you should not feel about cars as if it is nothing, that is not real life, and don't we all love GTA because it gives us a loose simulation of a city (or a state) with its pastiche of real life elements? Say no to The Sims, but say yes to loose realism. I hope some of us can agree ... very well said, you hardcore newbie mat
Vhati
Well, that Mat pretty mcuh summed it up. I mean, it's not called Grand Theft Legally Buying Property, but that didn't stop CJ from doing just that. Owning stuff, especially cool stuff, feels good. It's like a relationship. A simple one, but it's there.

Yes it does make sense. You have to OWN the car for someone to steal it from you.
