Vhati
y do people say "its grand theft auto, if you wanna do xyz, go play xyz" cant people want to play grand theft auto with something new in the game? do you acctually know what Grand theft auto is/mean? Dumbass. yea i actually do, dumbass and yea, its called Grand Theft Auto, not "Grand Theft Auto, Shoot, Kill, Fly, Play Darts"...RockStar didnt make a game where the objective is to steal a car, and thats it...it implements all aspects of an open-ended crime game, ie killing people, playing darts, bowling, flying helicopters. so stop getting hung up on the name "Grand Theft Auto"...thats OBVIOUSLY not the only aspect of the game, DUMBASS forreal, i dont understand why people shoot other people's ideas down...how would it hurt u to add the ability to save a car with a blip system? you would clearly have a choice, free to steal all the cars you want, while the people who DO want to take advantage of saving a car will also be happy...stop being so damn negative I agree with you. And who says if you own a car, you can't steal 100 more, huh? It'd just be nice having a car that no one else in the city has, in my opinion. And yeah, the Saint's Row garage kicked ass. Even if your car gets blown up, you only have to pay $500 to get it fixed.
leftylucky
There would be alot of advantages to owning a car, and before you people shoot down the idea without even fully thinking it out, listen. First, buying expensive cars would be a great way to spend excess money in the game. 50,000 dollars for a luxury car will take a big chunk out of your savings. That gives you alot of reasons to make money in the game. Second, Im pretty sure it was stated that cops would pull you over if they caught you driving a stolen car with the window smashed in. If you dont want to always risk getting hassled and then chased by cops for a stolen car, then youd have your own car to drive around. If they did allow buying cars, then they most likely would implement a system where your car can always be transported back to its parking spot and if its been destroyed youd have to pay a fee to get it in perfect condition again. Thats the cost of keeping the car you want, but it means you always get to keep it no matter what as long as you have the money to restore it. People who dont want to own a car, and just want to steal every car they drive can, and they wouldnt even be bothered by purchasable cars. Just make sure you dont pass any cop car with your window smashed in and the engine hotwired.
DCypher11
Tommy owned a sh*tty Oceanic, and Niko will have a Stallion. Buying twenty cars as an immigrant isn't that realistic. nobody said anything about having to go to a dealership and fill out paper work, proving you're an American citizen, put a down payment on it and pay the lease throughout the game. yall are thinkin way too into it. I think what we mean is just a system where u can keep track of a car, no matter how u aquired it, with some kinda gps/blip system, so that If you find a really unique car, and dont want to have to go around looking for another one forever, you have that one in your possession, until it blows up of course. Just a little problem there... Niko aint an American citizen. Yeah that's going way into it. But tbh, as long as you can store favourite cars in yer garage who really gives a feck? um, im pretty sure somebody coming to NY from a foreign country has to attain legal US citizenship in order to establish themselves..so, ur wrong there buddy. Unless he's supposed to be there illegally, which I havent heard yet, so i doubt.

JOKA22
See: the name of the game. It's called GRAND Theft Auto. Not 'Own a Car'! If you want to own a car, go play Forza. shattered-minds
Despite what haters might say, I think it's a good idea. To be honest I'd be happy with buying a car for x amount of cash and just have it respawn at my safe house. I know I'd be driving to missions in that car but it wont be what I'll be driving home in so it'd be nice just to have that car always available at my safe house. If you get me. I think it be an okay idea if you could track one car through a gps(onstar or something haha) system...like you take a car to a shop to put a tracking device on it, but you can only have one car at a time with a tracking device on it. That way the whole map isnt full of all these little blips moving around

RONIN1191
See: the name of the game. It's called GRAND Theft Auto. Not 'Own a Car'! If you want to own a car, go play Forza. TBH, I can't wait to plough my first ride into some peds and see em fly with the new physics. So, let me get this straight- you never once parked a SINGLE CAR in any garage you had in III, VC, SA, or LCS and VCS for that matter (if you played them)? At all? This would also mean that you did NOT own the carlot in San Fierro and you did not buy any the repair garage (also in SF)? You wouldn't have finished the game if you didn't...at least, not to 100% completion. You wouldn't have advanced in the story mode if you didn't get that garage in SF either. Neither of those two items I mentioned have anything to do with Grand Theft Auto; in fact, 90% of the missions you undertake have nothing to do with Grand Theft Auto, so what is your point, truly? You kill people (which has nothing to do with gta), you sell/steal/buy/take drugs - depending on which game you're actually playing (no gta there); you ride as a gunner in a heli, base jump or bail out of flying apparatus (no gta there), take flying/driving/boating/motorcycle lessons (no gta there, its an actual school); you pick up hookers, or you pick up a girlfriend (no gta there)... You getting this yet? To hear you tell it, it should be called anything BUT GTA...as you only have one or two specific missions that deal with the premise of grand theft auto. OT: I would like to see this in the game; at least one car I would own, I guarantee it. I also liked SR's garage system but not for GTA...60 cars in one garage? That's stretching it a bit...which isn't to say I don't enjoy the space...I'm currently playin now in anticipation of IV and slowly but surely, I am starting to ALMOST like it. zengonzo
I like the idea of being able to keep and customize at least one vehicle - something you can consider special and signature to yourself. It would definitely lend some additional personality to your character, and give you a sense of risk when you actually take it out and use it. Or, if you can't handle that risk, just keep it in a garage and regularly buff it with a diaper.
AbrahamFinkle
I can't help but skip some. I think that a bit map would be neat, take a dip in the water and get out and have your car there waiting on you would be nice. At the begaining someone said something about haveing some one grab your car I like that a hunt ascpect to the game would be nice..If we go completely online in a couple years its going to get more and more realitc. I can't wait till I get my own house and every body esle has there own houses... Buth those that don't want to own a car well be out becuase I'll be hiding in the brush waiting for some SOB to try and get in my car... sniper head shot 10 pionts
Flair
Even if we can't buy and own cars, at least we know we have the car saving system back. I remember a preview describing parking your car on a designated parking space outside your safehouse, and it always appears there - that's a good substitute, for me at least. Mat1871
I understand very well the vibe of the OP. Now that money is less easy to acquire, i hope that having a car will be more enjoyable (and more of a hassle). I think this is the direction R* wants to go, since public transportation in GTAIV is far more complex than in the other GTA's, and i'm excited about it. My experience with GTA is that you are too free in certain aspects, of course, a criminal is more free than other persons since they don't abide by societal rules (and its official representation: the Law), but surely man is born in freedom he is cast into chains everywhere he goes afterwards. A little scenario of what i would like to see and feel when i'm playing GTAIV, you have a car (either you bought it or stole it), this is your car for many missions, it is your car for cruising, social missions, etc. etc. you have to take care of it, since it is not easy to steal a car or it is not easy to acquire a great amount of money in a short period, no, you must really feel like this is your car, every dent on it must gnaw on your mind for a little while, but not too much, of course. If it gets stolen you're angry, if you are carried away by some other mobster a few miles from your car, you search for the nearest bus stop and go back to your car. I didn't hate the easy car theft in the other GTA's (and i'm not implying that doing crazy things with cars should be the hardest thing in GTAIV), but it was all too easy, you cannot walk upon the freeway and "jack" a car, you should not feel about cars as if it is nothing, that is not real life, and don't we all love GTA because it gives us a loose simulation of a city (or a state) with its pastiche of real life elements? Say no to The Sims, but say yes to loose realism. I hope some of us can agree ...

ichizuzu
At least one thread about this a day. Its called Grand Theft Auto... I can't be bothered to state the reasons of how stupid it is to 'own' a car on a game where the name is about stealing them. Hmm, well since it is called Grand Theft Auto, maybe R* should skip all the shooting ,killing ,and drug use and just make it a next gen driver 2....You see the point I'm trying to make? zainkool
Just saving cars in your garage has always worked for me, at least in the sense of feeling as if it's your car. But maybe they'll have some sort of impound/towing system in IV, which was touched up on lightly in SA. You leave a car out there, it gets towed and you can go pick it up. Or not. Thats a good idea man
1killadude1
I think having your own car is a great idea! I've always wanted to have a car that i can call my own in gta and make it personalized so its not just "some car i stole" to get to a mission. The map blip is a good idea too...and mabye a remote starter so if i need to get away fast i can hit a button and my car will start.(providing cars actually shut off after getting out) It would be best though if you could use stolen cars as well so you dont "have to" go out and use your hard earned money on a car...unless its a really rare car or really fast etc. Also i think the public parking should be throughout the whole map and not just at your safehouses...like at subway stations or major landmarks so if you wanna see the sights of liberty city and stuff you can without worrying about your car getting stolen. Also you should be able to have more than one car (like 3 or 4 max) because there is sooo many cool new cars in gta4. Off Topic: I LIKE COOKIES!
