One thing i wish i did was to learn the cities roads... so i wonder if the sat nav will take you the shortest way to your waypoint or your previous knowlegde will get you around the city faster.

In this game like others have said im gunna take my time and learn the city like the back of my hand and enjoy it to the max.

So did anyone know the city in and out like it was their own hood.

You do know this is a completely different city now?

As for knowing my way, yea I know my way around III (maybe not so well anymore as I haven't played it since VC came out sad.gif ) . I know VC and SA pretty damn well but with SA I still find the odd occassion where I need to look at the map to remember where something is e.g. the Bandito, I'll know it on a beach but I sometimes forget which one lol.

he was talking about in reality, since GTA4 is based off of NYC and some areas are exactly were they are in reality.

I'm sure i will notice a few areas. i live in NY but not in the city, aprox. 36 miles away from it.

Why is there no explanation as to why Liberty City has changed every buliding and its island shapes since GTA3?

I knew GTA3 off by heart, as well as any GTA map, so this GTA4 map will be no bother. smile.gif

Could I just ask, out of curiosity, as I'm not from NYC and have no idea, besides some pictures and some scenes from films, what it looks like...

...From trailers and some pictures you may have seen, does any of it actually seem familiar besides from the obvious landmarks and other huge places?...although saying that pretty much everything is NYC is huge lol

global warming happened. the ice caps in northpole melted and shifted the islands shape and liberty city had to be rebuilt from scratch

Well don't stop dreaming my friend, I read in a preview somewhere that when the player went past some place in Times Square (GTA equivalent) I think it was he said something along the lines of "I was like wow that used to be where I lived!" or something like that...

...I'll try and find it for you unless you have read it, but just imagine seeing your place in GTA:IV, man you're lucky to have such hope lol!

Liberty City is an exaggerated New York. Crime is not as easy to commit these days as it was in previous years. Thats not to say there isn't crime, because there is, and it can be violent.

But don't think Liberty City is a copy of New York living.

NY is a city, like any other city. There is crime, it is certainly not the place where the American dream goes to die.

I'm fairly positive even if you live in NYC(like I do), you will not be able to find specific points. It's not a recreation of NY, its a work inspired by it. Yeah some places will be the same, or in the same places, but that will most likely be places a lot of people(tourists) travel too. Downtown and Midtown will probably be fairly accurate and maybe a few places in the other boroughs, but that'll be pretty much it.

I have learnt my way easily around previous games, without actually trying to learn the city.

Well, On San Andreas I always seemed to get lost on the way back to my house in the hood for some reason...

There is one. GTA, GTA III, and GTA IV are in different universes in which the development of a certain city on the East Coast has gone differently.

I was actually wondering about the streets, locations etc...

But thanks anyway, I've heard that NYC is quite a violent place but I don't actually know how violent it is so it's interesting to hear from someone who has first hand experience (that's me just assuming lol).

@ Liquid KO: Here is the preview I mentioned, page 11 of the IGN feature: http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/863/863028p11.html

@ mac915: I'd love to hear what your opinion is after you've played the game, just to know how LC and NYC fit together geographically...yes I'm that sad biggrin.gif

Its not as violent as it used to be back in the day. During the 70's into the 90's it was pretty bad throughout the five bouroughs but Giuliani reduced crime alot here. Not to say its all pleasent now cause its def not, just visit any rough neighborhoods especially any of the projects (Queensbridge, Baisley, the pink houses, theres tons of others). But on the topic im sure there will be places that are familiar around liberty city.
